T Rail vs Vertical bolt rails

what ever I'm smoking is better than what your sniffing.

Why do you have to dry fit rails?

John, if you actually WORKED on as many tables as I have in the past, you wouldn't be asking these questions, or making the comments you have made. "I" do the work, because I'm very good at what I do, therefore I don't send my rails off to someone else to rebuild them. If you did a little more work, well maybe a LOT more, then you'd be more informed as to how inconsistent the "T-rail" system actually is, and how much better the modern day tables really are! I'm not holding it against you when you send the rails off to someone else, but I do "Fix" the sub-rails myself if I need to, and with my new tooling....that can be done better than ANY one else can do, as my tooling works with the rails bolted to the slates, instead of on a bench or some other device to hold the rails in place.

You are a mechanic John, but not even close to being in my league, nor have anywhere NEAR the experience I have...so keep that in mind when you always try arguing with me;)

When I need something done that I can't do for various reasons I send it out, so what.

All of a sudden you develop this little tool and now think your the KING again. Are you kidding. Show everyone some pics of T-rail liners that you have done in the past and replaced. You take pics of everything so lets see them. Today, this morning.

I could make my own rails and table if I wanted as I can go out and purchase all the equipoment. Then I'm a mechanic right. BS

You don't even work on antique tables, lets see all the pics?

You do the same tables over and over, I do whatever comes.

Now you are a great mechanic but theres more then working on the tables to the job then just hacking up rails and patching them. Wouldn't or shouldn't you just cut them off and replace them with a new blank. Wouldn't that be the proper way instead of hacking a bunch of pieces of wood onto an old rail liner. Give the customer a new rail liner. Thats what I do!

A new rail liner sounds alot better to me then one that has been hacked over. Sort of like my rail ext's, its a good in between step but not the real fix. I love it when you attack me as my rep points go up, so keep it up.

Maybe your modifed rails should go in the hack section, in 20 years when some mech is replacing them with new ones and says"wow, look at what somebody did to these rails, they glued little pieces of wood everywhere, they should have done it the right way and just replaced them".

Its ok if you have to hack them up though I understand.

Are you that ignorant John, it's the same sub-rail fix whether it's on a T-rail or GC1....it's even the exact same profile because from the feather strip forward on both kinds of rails....the sub-rail is the SAME, what it's attached to is regardless. If you were a better mechanic....then you'd KNOW that, so keep digging a hole;)

I think its better to just put on a new liner. I get mine from Muellers and have no problems replacing a bad component or damaged one with a new one.

Basically your solution is second best to that.

Show some pics of the bottoms of those rails please

Yes I am ignorant

John, I've been working on pool tables for over 26 years now, and you've been working on them for what....10yrs? So, I HAVE tables I've worked on over 20 years ago....do you? And for your information, it's YOU who's always trying to attack me, I don't know if it's because you're jealous, or feel threatened by my experience or what, I really don't care, but you need to really take a look at yourself John, as far as your rep points go, who cares, you could have a billion rep points....and it won't change who you are....or what you know, you're still just a table mechanic....who will never know as much about pool tables and how to work on them as I do, so get over it buddy. My goals are to change this industry for the better, your goals seem to be to try and get people to look at you and say...."hey John, we're with you buddy....you ARE as good a mechanic as the "Realkingcobra"!!!....NOT, and NEVER will be!;)

Glen

get fat? got there already buddy:D she hasn't looked at me the same since i met you:rotflmao1:

What are you talking about Pat, she hasn't looked at you the same way ever since you got her pregnant, then had a great kid....but still remembers ALL the PAIN you put her through....THAT'S why she don't look at you the same way anymore....I know buddy, cuz even I have 2 women out here in this world that'll never look at me the same way again....but if looks could kill....I'd have been dead and buried a long time ago:rotflmao1:

T Rails vs modern vertical bolt

Just for grins I measured the distances between the long cushions on four Diamond tables I found one that was parallel within a 1/16" close enough? The other three were off by 1/8" to 3/16" I venture a bet that you could measure any new commercial table set up by competent mechanics and find this to be true or worse. As for being out of square that is difficult to check accurately with just a tape measure. Although this would not affect the game at my level of play it still is not right.

Where did you measure from?

I can't believe there is this much of an arguement that t rails are better. Its no contest. Modern day rails are better as long as the rail is cut right and the cushions are good. Ive done quite a few antiques where the rails can't even be interchanged on the same table left of head won't even line up at left of foot. Thats why most are numbered on rail and side of slate by someone along time ago so the bolts go in easy. And the slates are not always extra thick i did a no nameplate antique today that the customer said was a 150 years old? I didn't say anything but i would guess it was from the 20's anyway the slate was barely over 3/4"
