Congrats to all who played a part in making this wonderful match happen. Two of the very best one pocket players in the world should provide quite a show.
Yes. Here are some thoughts on Fargo Ratings in a situation like this.
DO (817) vs TC (750)
These two have battled at one pocket before and have shown to be closely matched in the field. So if anyone wants to say Fargo Ratings are clearly out the window here for a one pocket match, I'm OK with that...
But some might want to consider this point of view. Maybe Fargo Ratings are out the window and hanging on the ledge.
If we think of Fargo Ratings--determined from success in games that are somewhat easier to master strategically--as accessing core skills, then your Fargo Rating can be viewed as kind of an upper limit on how good you can get at a game that has a lot of game-specific knowledge & skills.
If DO learned to move as well as TC, DO would be a better one pocket player because he has stronger core skills.
In this sense, time and experience could be on DO's side.
We don't know where they are at now. But if you look at the two of them between the last two matches, when they seemed pretty even, betting on TC was like investing in that $500K house in the neighborhood nicely maintained with new paint & carpeting--essentially its full value being realized. And betting on DO was like investing in that house also worth $500K on the open market with a few more square feet with room for a little work.
Has that work been done? I don't think playing poker players counts.
