I'm not sure how this has gone unmentioned here or maybe it has and I missed it, I give him grade a "A+" for effort.
I've only watched part 7 and 8. Perhaps he could of done the research he did on part 8 before he started part 7 and he might of figured not to use the round nut plates in the rails.
Where did u think he did research on rail design??

What you guys think?

Maybe he's built a few tables from the ground up before.

500 home style tables and 128 coin-operated pool tables, plus my involvment with Diamond over the last 13 years....I know a little about building pool tables...from the ground up. A few of my customers were Dave Craig, Dave Brown, Kenny Easley, and Sherman Smith...all players of the Seattle Seahawks back in the 80's:grin:...and if you watch the video, he tells you he made the rails 1 25/32"s thick...which is over 1 3/4" and used K66 cushions....that combination don't play worth a shit:rolleyes:

Give the guy a break' he made a great effort.
Let me guess.... You don't like his use of the table saw..

Rob.M

And no, I don't like the use of a table saw to make the rails, a thickness planer works a 1,000% better, and is much more accurate, and...it don't leave any saw blade marks;)

I agree, with a little more R&D he could of made/built a better desinged table.
I'm just curious where or who he consulted with to come up with the design he did....?

For a split second when I seen the video on the YouTube app on my phone I thought it was John Palmer until I clicked on the video to make the image bigger.

Ya actually the bar my Wife manages has a RKC coin op table that plays lights out.

Awesome! My post was genuine, I wasn't attempting to be facetious at at all.

He was a member here a couple years ago when he made the first few parts of the series, and then I hadn't heard from him since. Nice to see he kept up with the project.

From what I recall, he was trying to do something like a handyman show on the internet. The pool table was just one of his projects, not the sole purpose of the show.

I think you have to give the guy a lot of credit. He's probably a banger, and probably went to a bunch of pool rooms to look at tables. Maybe bought a set of plans that are available somewhere online, that who knows how good they are. I think there was also a Fine Woodworking article in the 80's that built a table. But again, that would have been from the perspective of a woodworker, not a real pool player or a person with intimate knowledge of a table. Its not like Diamond or Brunswick makes detailed plans for a skilled woodworker to make a table from.

I'm a skilled woodworker, and have looked at this in the past. I'm also a player, and know there is just not enough information out there to make a good table on your first try, unless you are also in the pool table business for your day job.

Not true. I am a furniture builder and had never made or repaired a pool table. I am also a regular local tournament player. I built a 9' table in 2009 from the information and plans in 'FINE WOODWORKING' magazine, issue #75. The table plays absolutely wonderful. I posted many photos of it in 2010 in this forum. You can bring them up by doing a search under my name.
