4.25" corners is very tough, but I agree, 4.5" sides is bordering ridiculous. Even a 45% angle shot in to the side pockets becomes virtually impossible. It will change the way you play position and patterns to the extreme that I really don't think it's very helpful to anyone's game. I agree with your assessment and would add - unless this player is at the very least of a "shortstop" level, I can't see where these pockets will help his/her game.

Yeah, the seller should not have committed to doing to the subrail extension alteration on the table as a part of the contract, unless he knew exactly what he was getting in to, and he had a mechanic that he knew could do the work properly.
And from the buyer's standpoint, if he was picky enough to make sure it was done correctly which it sounds like he is, he would have purchased the table as is, and then gotten the mechanic he wanted to make the alterations the way it should be done - which very few mechanics are knowledgeable in doing correctly.
Hopefully it was done for him correctly, but there are only a handful of mechanics in this country that can likely do that alteration the way it should be done, so maybe he got lucky in that regard.
The table wasn't agreed on $900. You must've misinterpreted an earlier post from another poster.
I'm a D player who can't run 2 balls on a Valley.
The corners came out close to 4.25" but measured slightly bigger. The sides were closer to 4.75". The 4.75 sides already shown to be difficult, so I'm glad it wasn't 4.5, which would be nearly impossible to play.
Given the time it's taken for this project to be completed, I'm satisfied with the work done.
I can finally spend more time working on my game and perhaps I can run 3 balls by 2020.
