Table felt

I'm pretty new to "serious" pool. I just recently got a table for free. It's not the greatest table but it was free so I can't complain. It's a C L Bailey 7.5 ft and in excellent condition. Only problem is the felt. It's like all other "home" pool tables with real slow felt. Like I said I've recently starting playing more seriously and looking into getting new felt. At all the pool halls the felt is super fast. Money is an issue for me so could anyone reccomend good, fast, but inexpensive felt? I do realize the process of re felting will cost a few hundred bucks alone. Is it worth just saving up and buying Simonis? Or what other felts are out there that are decent with similiar speed that are less expensive? If I do go with Simonis, which one of theirs would you reccomend? And finally, is it even worth putting the money into this table re felting it? Or should I just save up, get a decent table in a few years and do it then?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any help though. Just joined the site and am impressed so far. Thank you

I'd suggest posting this in the table mechanic section of the forum. They have a wealth of knowledge and a lot more traffic than this area. They're the pros at this stuff.

Simonis is worth spending the extra couple of bucks. The thing is, if you want to buy another quality cloth, you are only going to save maybe 30 or 40 bucks. If you looks at a brand that is 100 bucks less than Simonis you just won't be happy with it.

So to get the performance you are looking for, there are a few brands out there, but you aren't looking at a huge cost savings ... hence the answer is usually "Get the Simonis".

Feel free to ask this in the "Ask the Mechanics" section as suggested. You could also ask for a good installer for your area. Getting a good mechanic for your install can save you huge headaches.

Is it a slate table, if not I probably wouldn't spend the money? If you do need felt and you have a set budget PM me. I am a dealer and have access to several price levels of cloth, although I strongly recommend Simonis 860HR. THx

I tried Championship Tour Edition, Pretty awesome so far, not much less money than Simonis but slightly thicker and would probably outlast it. Speed was ideal for me, not super fast or slow. Just my two cents.

You can get prolines Proform for around 150$ or Velocity Pro for about the same. Both are worsted cloth and are a decent alternative to Simonis.

Championship Tour Edition cloth is a super cloth. I am very, very happy with mine.

Try asking what the people at the bars you play at are using on their tables. For the longest time everyone thought that simonis was being used on the tables at the local bars we play league at only to find out it was championship. Maybe you wwill be suprised byt the responses you get from the bars.

I got championship tour cloth 6 years ago, and it's pretty worn out at this point. Not a serious practice table, so it's lasted longer than in some cases.

I like that it has little stretch compared to simonis, but I'll likely replace it with simonis soon (just to see how the table plays with both).

I've played on a lot of tables that have champion on them. Cheaper alternative to Simonis and the performance is more than acceptable. Personally I think Simonis has priced themselves out of the market and you're just paying for the name. So if you have money to waste by all means, but if you want the bang for your buck there are great alternatives.
