New user here - been lurking for a while but as a novice, I've got a lot more to learn than to offer so I do a lot of reading and not a lot of posting. I figured tax refund time was a good time to pick up a table for the home so I've been looking around for a few weeks now and this weekend was able to grab a freebie. No harm done for $0 but sometimes things are worth exactly what you pay for them so I need to call upon the collective wisdom of this forum.
I picked up a table that looks exactly like a Gold Crown III minus the Brunswick logo on the ball storage trim. To be honest, I thought it was a GC until I started taking it apart. All of the metal parts - pocket castings, mounting brackets, etc. - as well as the gully return boots are stamped "born winner" which I have to assume is the brand. It is a 9 foot table with a 3-piece, 1" slate.
Looking at the GC manual which I was able to find from this forum, the construction is almost identical. The legs, stretcher, rails and aprons are all assembled eactly the same and even use the same bolts/fasteners. The only difference is that the base frame is not nearly as solid.
The table is solid wood - no particle board or veneer. I thought the table would be in bad shape so my original plan was to paint it but the wood on the aprons looks so nice it would almost be a crime to do so. I like the look of the table and I'm no snob so I would have no problem with it in my house as long as it can be set up properly. So my question to you guys - is anybody familiar with these tables and do you know whether or not they can be made sufficiently playable?
