I am getting ready to purchase a table for my home. If the room will hold up to a 9' table, which would you reccomend and what size. I am just going to be playing and possible teaching on this table. Also in the room will be wall mountable cue racks all around the room, a few captains chairs and a small table or two. What table company, what size would you reccomend? I live in the St. Louis area!

For a 20' x 25' room i would put a 4x9 for sure. i have one and the size works great. you will have 6', 9', 6' = 21' then the side is 6', 4', 6' = 16'. so a 20' by 25' room would be nice. Even 16'x21' would do.

I'm not sure if I want a 9' though, I want to have plenty of room around it for my cue racks, a table and possibly a pc for my business. Just depends on the room size I guess plus I don't want to spend over $3k for it. I'm in the military and will be moving a few more times in my career!

Try an Olhausen.

They have an excellent selection in all table sizes, will assist you with room dimension requirements, and have your table set up by a professional. It might cost a few more dollars, but it is well worth the money, and I guarantee you that you will avoid all of the pitfalls that are experienced by people that tkae the low cost route.

Connelly is another excellent company that is based out of Arizona.

They offer quality, craftsmanship, and just like Olhausen, a lifetime guarantee and warrantee. Connelly makes a great table, on an equal scale with Brunswick and Olhausen.

Purchasing from a company that stands behind their work is well worth the extra money in the long run. If you make the right decisions now, you can make a great investment that will provide you wiith years of enjoyment. If you rush into it and look for the cheapest route, in two years you'll be one of those guys trying to sell their table in the classifieds.

Here is a room size chart from the Olhausen site.

I've looked at Olhousen and Brunswick a little. Have you ever heard of A.E. Schmidt out of St. Louis? They have some beautiful hand made wood carved tables that have an impecable track record and, to my knowledge, come with a lifetime guarentee as well.

A E Schmidt is as good as those...........Would you be looking for a 8 foot GC one?????? Since ya coming this way.......We got a few used table you might like. We have 8 eight foot GC1s.....they need to be refurbished, but worth the time. Just realy need to have the skirts and legs painted. The tops are nice, maybe new rubber and shim the pockets up.

I own a Brunswick Centurion Pro 8 and find that it is a good size for practice and play. These tables are the best looking out there in my opinion when built with the super high tech poly black rails and skirts with chrome trim in a satin finish. Throw some 860 simonis on there......Really Sharp!

I am not one who has any concern or is affected much by switching table sizes; this is something you should consider for yourself when looking at new or used tables.

Are you going to play on 9 footers all the time? 8 footers at the local tavern? It makes sense to buy a table that is the size you will most frequently be playing or competing on.

I personally would get the biggest damn table you can fit into your room.

Pooltablemech- I've played on AE Schmidt tables before and love them as much as the GC's and Diamond. However, I'm not in the market for a table that needs a little TLC up front. Thanks though!
KingCarem- I looked at the Brunswick Centurion Pro 8 and that was going to be one of my next Q's, about this table! I will be playing on both 9' and 3.5x7' tables. 9' at tournaments, bar boxes at league. That's why I would like an 8' oversized. That is what I used to practice on when I first started playing. The AE Schmidt tables are really nice and can be in my price range. I do like the black tables with chrome trim, it looks sharp and intimidating a little! (to opponents, not me. haha!!)

Compare the Olhausen Grand Champion 8.5' to the Brunswick Centurion 8.5' tables?

Most tournaments are played on Green felt, right? What felt do you prefer and why?

HELP! Never played on either of these two tables and would like to know some differences!!!!

Hey Zim, when you come down this way you can check out the Gold Crown 1's we have...............you can see what shape they are in. With just a little work you can have a great table for less than your gonna pay for a new one. All the work they need done is cosmetic. And clean up the bolts and stuff. If I ever get off my ass I am going to fix them all up myself, but I am kinda lazy. :D

I wont be able to get down there for awhile. Do you have some photos and a price that you could email me?
Thanks!

Which Olhausen are you looking at....In my opinion I don't like that Brunswick.......I remember setting up a few of those and wasn't that inpressed.....as far as PLAY. Not a bad table but others might play better. I will try to snap some pics of the GCs this week.......Just to show you the condition. It really isn't that much work they need. Selling them for 1300.

Give me a few days and I can get some pics.........The legs and spreader under the table could be sanded maybe and paint them. Black if it was me. Polish the feet, or not.........and make sure the insert they screw into is secured good. They did't secure them real good when they made them for some reason. But not hard to fix when the table is apart. Polish up the corner castings, or not......Just some polishing compound and elbow greese. The skirts are painted but could use some cleaning up and paint. The rails are in good shape no missing laminate or anything like that. For the rubber being that old it would be worth it to replace them with some new rubber and shim the pockets up at the same time. I would buy all new bolts for the rails and clean up the rest.................and you have a Brand NEW table for alot less than it would cost you for a table that plays as good as that!

9 ft Diamond or 9 ft Gold Crown. That's what I'm getting when I retire and move to Ft Walton Beach. :)

Matt- You're moving to Ft Walton Beach when you retire...me too!! But I've got another 16 years to go! haha!! That's where I'm going to open my Pool Hall.

Ft. Walton Beach

Is Bill "Cash" Moore still there. He owned 1/2 the town in the 70s and was a great stake horse if he trusted you. Use to live there myself, me and the Great "Painter". Great place to live and owning a Gold Crown 4, I'm very partial to it. Infanite adjustments to level it.
