table question

I have a table question for all of the experts on the forum. I have a homa table. It is an Olhausen. It plays very tight. I have measured the pockets and they are right under 4.75. I have played on several 9 ft diamonds with pro cut pockets. Most recently at the DCC. Ball are much easier to pocket on the diamond tables. What causes this ? The diamond tables have smaller pockets. I am not just crazy here, I have had several play on my table that are B speed or above and they have commented on how challenging it is to pocket balls on my table. Pocket speed is an absolute must!!!!!!!!

Your poclet angle could have something to do with this. Compair the two angles and see what you come up with.

Besides the way the pockets are cut, it could be your cloth. If the cloth is new, then you'll make quite a few more balls than you would on older cloth. You can shoot the same exact shot on new or old cloth, the ball goes in with new cloth and misses with old cloth.

It could the depth of the shelf, the pocket cut of the slate. Some tables have a shelf to the front end of the table & some are cut much deeper in toward the back of the pocket.

There are some Olhausen's at a place around here with big pockets that spit out a lot of balls that should go in. I looked closely and it seems there is a lip on the pockets that deflects balls out, leaving them sitting right over the pocket.

I've explained the problem with the Olhausen pockets several times here on AZ, and how to fix the problem...I'm sure someone can do a search and find out what I've said to do to fix the Olhausen pocket rattle.

Most O's I've played on the shelf is fairly deep (than a GC anyhow) and the facing angles seem cut more open than on a Diamond or GC (i.e. more "V" shaped than "U"). As a result a ball hit down near the rail with speed will tend to want to rebound off the facing across the mouth to the other facing rather than into the hole. This is especially true if the ball hits the rail on the way to the pocket.

RKC has since informed me that the cushions on O's are also softer, so it exasperates the problem because when the ball hits the facing it compresses it even more, thus opening it up even more - the result once again the ball crosses the pocket into the other facing.

RKC has posted the fix which iirc consists of changing the facings to a harder grade so the cushion doesn't compress as much.

One of RKC's posts on the matter:

And here's a thread where Donny of SD Billiards worked on changing the pocket angle by installing and beveling new facings:
