October? Hopefully late October is best as I'll be in the States (USA) from late September to Mid-Oct. Cheers!

Hey Ed!
Hope you can squeeze in a few days in Cincinnati, when you're in the US! I'd love to return your hospitality. I have a spare room for you to stay and a shop if you have any piddling you need to do. I may even have my personal Tagalog translator here by then, though I know I don't need one with you! lol

Hi, i am also planning on spending a month or two travelling and playing pool at the end of this year after I quit my job. Austrlalia sucks for pool, especially 9 ball so I'm off back to the UK or the states. However I planning on spending a month or so in the Phillipines and would like some advise on where the best pool halls are and any suggested itineries. Obviously I would luv to practice with the great one himself Mr reyes (I'm sure I could teach him a few things! :-)) or some of the other top players. Any help appreciated.

Yeah, Edwin can help you on your visit. He can sked you to different pool halls. I can also help you should Edwin be not available for a particular day, I'd be willing to substitute.

Hope to meet yo soon.

Snooker to 9-ball ey, I'll try and hook you up with Marlon Manalo or DeoMark. They both were in the Philippine National team for snooker but are now concentrating in 9-balls. Marlon is the guy who beat Yang, Busty then Efren in the recent WPC while DeoMark is an up and coming. DeoMark is still in college while Marlon is a college grad and now owns his own poolhall. What I'm getting at is that you won't have trouble conversing with these gentlemen and getting along as you share the same background and interests.

> Yeah I saw that Manalo had some great results, would be great to meet him hita few balls. As I said I have recently decided to have a serious go at 9 ball which means there's a few things I need to learn in order to compete. Angles, banks and most importantly the break! Seeing Pagulyan and santos in Reno I was amazed at how great they breaked for there size. I always new it was technique and timing but the fact that the Phillipines seems to be the number one 9 ball nation just confirms this. Also rotation is a game like one pocket I have never played and I think these would be well suited to my game, just can't wait to get there!

One question, it seems like Manilla, Angeles City and Cebu are the main areas where the best players come from, would this be correct? It is more likely that I will be there in November than October, although idealy I would like to spend some time in the Phillipines and then go to Tokyo for the 9 ball although I'm not sure if the IBC tour is still in operation?

Thanks again

Thanks Mika, all help welcome, will put up a post closer to the time, I've been to many asian countries but never the Phillipines, can't wait. Sounds like a great place!

One of the very best pool halls in Manila is where some of the top pros play. While in the Philippines visit Rack 'n' Roll Billiard Cafe at 1786 A. Mabini St. Malate, Manila (near corner Remedios St.).

For more information visit their website at www.racknroll-manila.com There is a location map at the About Us section.

I'm planning to go to the RSB tourney, if my fiance's arrival from the Phillipines does not conflict. She could be coming during that time period, if the visa goes smoothly, so it's hard for me to make solid plans at this time. If she gets here before the tourney, I'll probably bring her. She's anxious to see the sights here in the US and I'd really like to make the tourney and the journey! Sherm

Wow! I guess the Philippines is it. Although I'm a bit skeptical because probably not many Taiwanese belong to this forum! haha!

I guess the results of the recent Philippine-Taiwan 9-ball competition held in Manila helps matters. The Taiwanese got a severe beating! Of course, it could be argued that the Filipinos got homecourt advantage. Maybe it would be better to reserve judgement after the 2nd leg of the tournament which will be held in Taipei. Can't wait....

I just been to Manila last month. Stayed for a month playing pool, beaches and food. Food is amazing, they have different delicacies every 100 km. Means every town has it's own cooking styles, they even speak different dialects, but everyone I met speaks english. Very very cheap food and very good compared to the UK. But make sure drink only bottled water. Locals are happy to see foriegners. They welcome you and give you all needed help. And for bachelors, filipina ladies are beautiful. About kidnappings, not all were done by locals, a few were staged by foriegners against foriegners. If you have enemies ( especially business), they will follow you to Manila and do there the kidnapping then your enemies go back to your country free of guilt. Then blame it to the locals. Few of the locals I met told me about these, they heard these on the news after police's careful investigations. But of course, I cannot comfirm all these. I came there to enjoy my holidays, and I did. I'll be back there again next year.
Cheers!!!

Boracay I believe is the best beach in the world! No doubt! I was there two years ago. But this time I just stayed around Manila. North of Manila have a town called Pangasinan. White sand as well, but also you need to go with them fishing. That is really amazing! Now I know the look of the entire
fish that were only available in fillets in the UK. Then went back to Manila to shot more pool. Go to Rock and Roll pool hall, it's a great place. They have a lot of top caliber house pros.

Was finally able to visit Boracay and it is paradise on earth! But,...

i heard there are places in the philippines still undiscovered that are way more beautiful! grrr.....

Will plan to visit Panglao island in bohol next, and maybe palawan, touted to be the last frontier (whatever that means).

Panglao island is a very good place or bohol to be more more island-wide.
They have the smallest monkey there on earth, the TARSIER, they have
also there an geologic wonder the CHOCOLATE HILLS...(looks yummy.. :D )
and there's also there LOBOC river, where you could travel via a banca (a small wooden native boat) and enjoy the river and a small waterfall and
of course a filipino dish as well. Palawan is known as the last frontier
because it is probably one of the places here that is still pristine in many
aspects especially in flora and fauna. In fact they imported a giraffe there
from Africa. There beaches is much beautiful than boracay, the most popular one is El Nido where even hollywood stars goes and visits (although
not a long one as boracay is and not as party oriented as boracay is).
I came from Cebu and definitely Cebu Island is one of the country attraction
because of many beachers, malls and 4star and 5 star hotels, known also
for dried Mango, or mango fruits, hand made guitar one of the finest in
the world, sea shells and crafts, world class wooden and rattan furniture
and historical distinctiveness (the first local on Asia where foreign invader named Magellan, a portuguese is killed by local chieftain named Lapu-lapu). Also right now im living for a while on a different island near cebu here in Dumaguete and one of the attraction here is the near
island of Apo Island..one of the most terrific diving site here in the Philippines
if your in to diving.

Just some info sir.

Here's some website that you might want to visit:

Bohol - http://www.bohol.ph/
Cebu - http://www.philippines.hvu.nl/cebu1.htm

Palawan - http://www.lakbay-pilipinas.coms.ph/travel_palawan.html
Dumaguete/APO Island/Negros Oriental - http://www.lakbay-pilipinas.coms.ph/travel_negros_oriental.html

Or visit Lakbay Pilipinas website.

i would go where there's a system in place,,,,a formal structure in learning the game.

and i have a feeling that's taiwan. just a hunch.

My anthro prof just returned from Panglao island researching Tarsiers. We saw slide after slide of these tiny primates, and to think we are but a few generations removed...evolutionarily-speaking, of course. (btw, it is neither a monkey nor is it the smallest primate; that title belongs to the pygmy mouse lemur, but not by much)

I'm sure that held everyone's attention, lol.

Well, let it never be said that the pygmy mouse lemur doesn't get its due on the forum.

Wondering what the bleep a pygmy mouse lemur is, I had a glance at a website on primates. Seems it weighs about an ounce and is found only in Western Madagascar. To those who post from (or vacation in) Western Madagascar, please tell us all about them!

Now, in case you're wondering what the pygmy mouse lemur has to do with pool...

As you mentioned, they live in Madagascar. I have Madagascar Ebony in my cue.

There.

-Roger (it all comes back to pool...)
