I turn 89 in a couple days Glen.

. . . As I like to say in a healthful way: "I'll be in a more advanced state of youth." :)

Still running things I see. Not too bad for 89. Tell me these aches and pains get better as they heal.

Here's an excellent article on that very subject, Glen:

Arnaldo~ Works for me, along with the high-tech, scientifically-designed protein-vitamin-mineral powder I've taken for years twice a day (to which I have no connection and won't publicly or privately endorse).

I would say that the overall vibe of the video is a holiday gathering of your cousins swapping stories, but the stories are mostly pool stories. There are some non-family guests like Nick Varner, Buddy Hall, and Fedor Gorst, but mostly they are regulars at the Texas Open which has been held in Austin for 50 years. Lots of stories about how pool was over those years.

I’m kind of surprised no one started a thread about this unless i’m blind and just missed it. we lost electricity last night so I streamed it to my ipad and I was entertained. I love history and I love pool so it was a good match for Me. I learned about great players I never heard of. It was worth the $6 rental on amazon for sure. I think what surprised me is this guy. I’ve seen him litteraly forever every year at the sbx at the omega kiosk. I’ve bought plenty from him including my predator jump and break cue this year At the expo and then there he was at acs nationals when I bought the black triangle cue ball lol I had no idea who he was. Gilbert Martinez..amazing player and now in the the texas pool hall of fame. It was just funny seeing him on screen lol I didn’t expect it. He’s always a nice guy and who I search out when I goto that stand.

what did you all think?
lol, i played him here in 89, i know who he is:)

That was a walk down memory lane. Good stuff. I’ll watch it 30 more times over the next few years. 🤠🤠

I'm still trying to figure out how to purchase it through Vimeo.

edit: suddenly the page loads. Wouldn't load worth a damn every time I looked on my phone.

edit2 electric boogaloo: Not bad, felt like a lot of things died on the cutting room floor which would explain my feeling of it being loose at times but tight at others. I hope they at least break even. While I would've liked to watch more, minus intro & credits it felt like a very short 1h35m.

I've thrown $20 at worse ideas.

I'm definitely going to watch this over the weekend at some point. It looks to be a $6 rental or a $20 purchase everywhere.

So, for those who've watched it, how would you rate the rewatchability? Is this a better one and done rental or something you could see watching multiple times?

I rented it and finished watching it just now. It was okay. Considering the title had "Texas pool" in it, I was expecting to hear the story of Cesar Morales busting everyone in the '85 Red's Tournament in Houston. But nothing. I understand the documentary centers around the Texas Open, but you would think they would at least mention Efren's invasion in that infamous tournament in Texas. But not even a single mention. One of the most iconic moments in all of pro pool history happening in the state of Texas, and not even as single word about in an entire documentary centered on Texas pool.

Still, the documentary was pretty informative...even to this pool fan of ~20 years on AZB. Cool to know something about Bob Vanover, about whom I knew absolutely nothing previously.

If it centers around the Texas Open they had better feature Bob Vanover. He was Mr. Pool in Texas for many, many years! Played as good as anybody on the planet!

It was a rental for me. It was very good and great entertainment, for any pool fan, but not a classic documentary/film that I will want to watch over and over. Well worth the rental, IMO.

this movie gets hate but I’ve watched it 100 times lol I always make the comparison to fast and the furious. If you watch f and f for realism you’ll be disappointed. It’s over the top and fun. It’s not a documentary.. same with pool hall junkies. Lots of funny moments for me and of course the iconic scene in the restroom.

That one pains me.
I don't know how they managed to combine billiards and Christopher Walken and produce something so awful.
To each their own, though. I have plenty of guilty pleasure flops that I can always rewatch.
