Put a stopper on that taper bar by the driver end.
That way if you move the bar, all you have to worry is the other end.
I caliper the distance from the bar's outside line to the tailtock mount.
Like 4.400" for forearm, 4.350" for shafts and 4.370" for straight cuts ( using the inside line of the bar for guide for straight cuts).
I use ATF oil to keep the grooves and rods smooth.
