Tapershaper opinions!

I am thinking about upgrading my tapershaper to the quiet router set up. I am having a difficult time justifying the price for comfort, ie quietness! I have many noise making tools in my shop. The loudest probably being my air compressor. What other advantages does this package offer? Longeverity is one, but there are trimmers that offer lifetime warrenty, ie RIDGE with a 6 amp 30,000 rmp motor at $100. Is the quiet router set up more accurate? If so how? What is the measurable difference? Is the difference that crutial when working with wood. What are the general feelings about this decision from the people who have made the change, and who haven't? What do you see as your biggest positive with regards to changing? Thanks

I dunno but the Ryobi that comes with it isn't that good.
I wished it fits a Bosch trimmer.

On my lathe, I started off with a used porter cable trimmer. I had a few bucks at the end of the year, so I treated myself to the Ridgid variable speed. I have noticed that the ridgid is noisier and causes more vibration marks on the wood. I just redid my mount for it to eliminate as much chance of vibration I can, but I think if it's very niosy, it isn't as good as a quiet one. It's a noise to vibration ratio.

i use a elte spindle form italy and also have 2 percise brand and just bought a columbo all are great and very accurate the elte is the quietest
2500.00 to 4000.00 depending on what you get if you need any firther info let me know

OK wher do i start. That ryobi is simply a P.O.S. You will go through brushs like there's no tomorrow. There's enough run out to kill a monkey and for power well it does'nt have any. For the taper shaper the quiet router is the shiz. I cut shafts so smooth I almost dont have to sand them. Also the thing runs so quiet there are no ear plugs required. As for what makes this router run so great well they use highly accurate NSK spindle. It's the same one used on a lot of the high dollar cnc's and even there own. I normaly run mine about 7-9 hrs a day for 2 years and the only thing that i've replaced is a belt. Hope this helps

I've been using Porter Cable laminate trim routers but I still have moments where noise and vibration cause wasted shaft blanks. I also use 2 1/2" X 1/4" slot cutters with 3 or 4 cutters. It works well sometimes, but then again...

Thinking of getting a new Taper Shaper to help me on cutting butts and shafts. What do you guys think of yours? Are they good machines , how is the repairs, often , any down time cause of it?
Just curious , hate to waste the cash.
Didn't mean to highjack the thread , just wondering.
Thanx,
Jim

Routers/taper Shapers

Hi: IMO the only way to go is with the Unique Products deluxe router with the
Cue Monster holder. You can mount a dial indicator or a digital readout on
it and you have a super accurate "Z" axis for your taper shaper or lathe.
These routers are whisper quite (well almost) and very smooth. Pricey,
yes. However, when buying tools the best is the best for a
reason-QUALITY.
