Take what you make?

Where the heck has anyone said that it is going to be anything but open off the break?

That is a truly terrible idea if this is take what you make. All that does is add a huge factor of luck into the game of 8-ball. Take what you make is a bar rule, it has no place in pro level 8-ball.

I agree...I hate all this change the rules bs..heck with bar rules pool..I really don't care about tv bs either..theres ustream, its not all that either..lets just keep it smiple an play the game.for all those that don't understand, they never will..because they don't watch the game enough to keep up...The only people that keeo this game alive,is those of us that love to play win or lose...
I'm a Corey fan...that kid can play a little "wink" I always thought he'd be more...very talented indeed..
Have a good 4th.

Ok, right now the poll is basically 2 to 1 in favor of Corey. Knowing how clever some of you guys are I wonder how valid the results are. I mean if I'm thinking John is going to win I'd vote Corey just so I can point to this poll in the action room and gets 2-1 on my money.

Maybe twice as many people are REALLY thinking John is going to win? :grin-devilish:

John is a REALLY good 1-pocket player, he is going to be very strong in 8-ball as long as it is open off the break as moving through a rack of 8-ball can use alot of the skills that come up in straight pool often, and he has a very under-rated 10-ball break and is a US Open 9-ball champ who can clearly run out rotation pool. John is no slouch in any of these games.

This is a close match, but you have to pick one or the other. In a more elaborate poll where each person could put down what they think the odds are on each player winning the series and then averaging out all those odds I think the actual odds that would then be good for betting on the match would be about 55-45 in Corey's favour. Alot of people think Corey has a "slight" edge.

Questions and situations

First off is it 3rd party rack/Opponent rack/Rack your own?
Second, does each use a power front break or the 2nd ball break?
Third is it Winner breaks or Alternate Break?

The way I see it, there are 4 possibilities for the break:
1) No balls are made, and it is an open table.
2) Making either a solid or stripe , and having a shot on the next object ball.
3) Making either a solid or stripe , and not having a shot on the next object ball.
4) Making a solid and stripe, and it is an open table.

Actually, I wish they were playing 8 ball on a Bar Table, as I think it is harder than a big table, except for breaking.

I think #3 is the least likely to happen out of the 4 possibilities.

It is most definately not. We can easily track the break and run stats and accustats of the upcomming TAR match compared to matches with equal calibre people in the USBTC or BCA Grand Masters and there will be a huge difference in difficulty with WAY more racks run on the 7-foot diamonds then on the 9-foot. It is not even close, the bar box is WAY easier.

I don't believe anyone has ran as many racks in a row playing 8 ball on a bar table as Ralf has on a big table. I believe it was over 20 in a row.
