I don't know if this is the answer Johnny, but if you hold down the Ctrl button and hit the minus key, it typically reduces the screen. You can do it multiple times and it incrementally reduces the screen each time (same in reverse using the + key).

Give it a try now, regardless if you're connected to the tv or not.

Sounds like the laptop or tv has a lower resolution than the 1280x720 that the hd player has. Easiest way to fix it is run the SD stream that is 640x360 or you can get into the display settings on the tv/laptop and make sure they are set to 1280x720.
