TAR Match Idea

I do not know what TAR has lined up, but having read the latest interview about Mark Wilson and the Mosconi Cup, why not have some TAR matches with some younger "up-and-coming" Mosconi hopefuls (or guys named to the team once the team is named) against likely European participants.

I think this would make for compelling viewing, and I think it would help prepare American players for the "spotlight" of the Mosconi Cup.

Just an Idea,

I'm not sure about a "pre-match" between next year's MC participants...the Euros might resist it, plus it undercuts the excitement/anticipation of the actual MC. I do like the idea of potential picks on the U.S. team playing TAR...maybe a round robin playoff to determine the final team (should Mark Wilson agree)? Or a mini-MC between last year's team and next year's (alternates would have to play if there's overlap, like SVB)...?

There is no money in it. Too much free streaming going for pool.

Maybe if they happened to be in Las Vegas or willing to go on their own dime and play for nothing. But, JCIN has to approach it as a business. And very few pool players are going to go pay for a non - upper echelon match ups. But, maybe if a couple of enterprising individuals would jump up and back a couple of young guns, TAR may offer a match up. I say may because backers and players both showing up has its own hurdles.

In the end it's a business and I don't think all but the top flight players draw bums in seats. Too many free streams dilute the public's appetite to pay for premium matches. If you could eat free pizza for lunch would you pay $5 a slice for the good stuff? I suspect many won't and don't.

Personally, I'd like to do a speed pool match with anyone. With my reach 6'6'' and my tempo like Earl, I get ''around'' the table pretty easily.

I'd like the free pizza. Pepperoni and onion, please...as long as that doesn't cost the extra $5.

Seriously, it's a good idea but TAR has to make at least a couple of nickels for all the money, time and effort it takes to put on a match. PPV is a tough sell under the best of circumstances (top flight players); I doubt people would pay to watch no-names.

Tar

Mark will have this under control. But he has the facilities to do their own thing and this coming weekend you can watch his Linderwood University Team take on another team fronted by Nick Varner.
Some of his potential MC picks will be in action. I don't have a link yet but I will post it when I know.

Any TAR involvement would not be appreciated by Matchroom. No reflection on you Justin as I am sure you understand. But such clashes between players involved in the Mosconi Cup would dilute the appetite for the actual main event

Tar 14.1

How about a TAR match featuring two 400+ ball runners. I would love to see a Race to 500 featuring Thorston Hohman and John Schmitt. I think there might be a good market for this match up as it seems Straight Pool has made a bit of a comeback in recent years and many Straight Pool leagues are popping up around the country.

Great idea! I would also love, love, LOVE to see a couple of former greats sweat out some 14.1, Ray Martin and someone, or maybe an epic match (straight or one pocket) between some seasoned action players, not seen in many tournies. There are scores of guys that are/were monster players that still play that most have never seen play. There's a lot to be learned from these older players, and not much on YouTube to be had...

The one that I've always wanted to see. And I'm not sure if it would sell or not. Is Efren vs Parica. Wow, this match up would be truly monumental. Not sure that both parties would accept this game.

Still, The Philippino Invasion changed this game more than possibly any other event in at least 50 years. And the change continues today. Look at American Rotation. These two frontiersmen are the Daniel Boone and the Simon Kenton of PI pool. They set the path for their younger countrymen. They not only changed us here, they set a high standard for their followers. Their two paths are undeniably inseparable.

Respect, Courage, and Commitment!
