Thanks Bob! I'd be interested to know how it works. I've been looking for a good one part finish for a long time.

Would also love to know what kind of results you get.
I have tried waterborne finishes in the past - they have
proven to be long on hype and very short on dellivery.
Friends and associates have had similarly disapointing results

Maybe this is the one

I am also interested in what kind of results you get! Seems I've often had problems with yellowing.

One part Poly

I've had real good luck with Enduro Clear Poly (now sold by General Finishes). I've used it straight so far and no problems with yellowing. It gives a nice hard finish that buffs out beautifully. I recently got some of the "crosslinker" that is suppose to make it even harder (more abrasion resistant). I'll be trying that on the next ones I finish.

Caused me to look. I'd be interested to hear/see some results long term.

Enduro Clear Poly... wow that's a nice finish...I'm new to this art and have been looking for a simple one part finish. How many hrs did you have in the finish on this cue? Any best practice for using this finish? Where can I buy this finish to try (Who's general finishes)?

Thanks,
Duc.

Thanks Cuesavvy...just got the 32oz sealer and finish! Looking forward to see how this finish will hold up...Any best practice for applying this kind of finish?

Tks,
Duc.

I never really counted the hours. I guess I spend a week or two on the whole process, but some of that time is "wait time". The prep work is what takes most of the time, but it pays off in less time on the actual finishing. After initial sanding, I used Enduro's Transparent Grain Filler. Applied at least three times to completely fill the grain and produce a nice smooth surface for applying the top coat. I sand between applications of the gran filler with 400 grit (except the last application). After the final coat of grain filler, I sand with 600 grit. The better the surface at this point, the better the final finish. I wipe it down with denatured alcohol and spray 4 coats of clear poly. Enduro is a high solids poly, so it builds fast. Enduro dries to the touch in 5-10 minutes, so the 4 coats were applied in one spray session. After a few hours, sand with 600 or 800 grit to smooth things out and repeat the with 4 more coats of poly. At this point, I let it sit for at least a week to allow the finish to harden. The longer it cures, the better. Once it's completely cured, I wet sand progressively with 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit. Then buff till it shines like glass.

Here's a link where you can find the Enduro products.

Testing This Finish

Well I was inspired to try it too. So it looks like we might get several points of view on this stuff.

I plan on testing several different woods. I'll post the results.

I'm going to work with Jeff Weiss at Target Coatings to learn how to apply this water base finish. I want to understand better the difference in preparation and application techniques over DuPont.

I'm going to test using all the mfg recommended products including sandpapers, compounds and polish. I'll throw in a couple of challenges cuemakers face for this stuff too.

If anyone has thoughts on testing let me know and I'll consider it. I'll post the test, my equipment and application when done. This should be fun. Let's see yellowing, bleeding, adhesion, durability, UV....

I myself, don't have the space or equipment for spraying safely so I use finish cure epoxy. 2 part, but the results are awsome, if you don't mind the sanding and buffing. But atleast my lungs are happy. Also, it stays clear no yellowing, and very durable to scratches and dings.

Thanks for being willing to do the leg work and post the results. I know all of us sucking in the Isocyanate's would love to find something a little kinder and gentler. Things to look for. Burn in between coats, or strictly mechanical bond. Does it halo if you sand thru one layer to another. Does it dent or shatter. Also do you get the color pop you get from solvent based finishes.
Thanks again,
