Team Asia: Efren Reyes Named Captain at Kings Cup!

When did Busty become a dog????? One on one for the money who in this country can beat him?

Like it or not he is getting weight now from the top Filipinos. He is also a slight dog to many of the top Taiwanese players.

Age is slowly taking it's toll, he is not quite the player he once was. He is still great, but he is no longer right at the top of the elites anymore.

The most successful and decorated player in the history of Asia, possibly the world, will lead the East against Europe/USA on November 19-21st. Efren "Bata" Reyes has been chosen as Captain of Team Asia and will lead them against the West in what surely will become the most epic rivalry in cue sports. The pool world is about to get rocked in a war that fans have been dreaming about for years. Dragon Promotions is pleased to announce the Kings Cup, a first time ever event pitting the men's champions of Europe & USA versus the champions of Asia in a three day contest to declare which side is the strongest, the East or the West. On November 19th-21st the world, as well as the players themselves, will find out! Four players on each side will be selected to represent their continent. The Kings Cup will be hosted by the award winning Resorts World Manila Casino & Hotel and produced by Dragon Promotions.

The rest of Team Asia will be announced in the upcoming days

Is Efren to be a non-playing captain (as in golf competitions) or a playing captain?

He does that every couple of years, but this isn't his first "come back." I guess we'll see...no one would be happier with an in-stroke Yang back winning tournies.

However, if you compare his play now to his prime...it's like I'm watching a different shooter.

This is his longest break from W9B. His last appearance in 2012
That's right he is like different player -that tenacity seems to be missing . Don't know if full time fishing does that.

The issue I see with this is that you will have a tough time getting the actual top players from Asia over here for this.

Ko Pin Yi
Jung Lin Chang
Dennis Orcullo
Johann Chua

Alternatives to the above could include

Ko Ping Chung
Jeffrey Ignacio
Wu Chia Ching
Yang Chin Sun

Those are some of the actual best in Asia that "should" be on the team if you want to make this a legitimate "best of the East vs best of the West" competition.

If you end up with Kiamco, Wang Can, Busty, ect... sorry but that does not cut it.

I am sure you have more access to some of the top Euros, Thornton obviously, Appleton is pretty easy to find, Neils makes his way over on occasion. Those are the top 3 Euros and TBH they "should" all be on the team. You could put Shaw in for one of them if you have to. And the only American is clearly SVB. No other American can really care to the top Euros (or Shane) and the closest that does (Dechaine) and you are not exactly best buddies so I hope Mike is not holding his breath.

If you put guys a step below the best, Bergman (awesome win against Dennis, still tough to find anyone to take even action on their next match...), Sky, Morris, or any other guys who are not quote there yet or not there anymore the event becomes a lark and means little.

Give me Dennis, Chang, Ko and Wu and the rest of the World can look out. You're talking about four of the best alive right here. Of course when it comes to Asian Pool, there could probably be three or four teams who are close to this speed.

That said, a team of Appleton, Hohmann, Feijen and Shane would match up well against anyone. All are proven winners. Today there are probably about fifty world class players who are less than a ball apart (one game on the wire to 20) in speed.

By the way, those guys trying to give Bustie the eight ball haven't been faring too well. If I see anyone trying to give him weight I know which way I'm betting.

I can attest personally that full time fishing will ruin your pool game :)

The current Yang hardly has a back swing anymore, and he's taking much longer on every shot. Souquet pace, Allen Hopkins poke stroke...not pretty to watch.

Most definitely not Souquet pace. He takes some time on more critical approaches at the table where the out is not straightforward. When the out is there he is still pretty quick on the runout. Souquet takes a boatload of time when the out does not warrant it, Yang does not do that.

He always had a short backstroke, I will admit he has lost much of what backstroke he "did" have, but that is probably part of the effects of rust. The slight backstroke and flow would likely come back if he actually stays in competition and gets more of the rust off.

Don't forget Chang Yu Lung.

Give me him,Chang Jung-Lin, Ko Brothers & Wu & everyone in the world can take whomever they like.

Well, here's to the both of us hoping for a full blown Yang comeback. Simon Chang has always called him the best "center/vertical cueball" player alive, and when he's in stroke it's a beautiful thing to watch him stun whitey all over the table with pinpoint accuracy.

Btw, that '02 semi vs. Busty was a perfect match. Yang bulldozed his way through the field (his 3rd or 4th semi at the WPC) and met a brick wall in Francisco. 2 players in top form slugging it out to the bitter end.

www.AndyClothUSA.com announcement: Mika Immonen, Captain of Team West in the Kings Cup!!!
The timing couldn't be better for The Iceman & Team West. Mika has initiated a hot streak upon his recent wins in the past 2 weeks in Europe. Now he will lead the Euro-USA squad against the deadly Team Asia.
"I'm ready.
"

Busty, for those that don't want to bother getting fished into clicking the link.

Definately not going to be the best vs the best for the two areas of the world.

Will be entertaining for sure. Just love when Efren and Buste play. Their chemistry is second to none. Efren will usually tease and make fun of Buste when he misses shot.
I am guessing if Captain Efren brings his hitman/ sidekick , then Captain Mika will either bring Thorsten or Petri :D
