Team Europe's fans

Is it me, or are Europe's fans the most annoying unsportsmanlike fans you've ever witnessed?

I mean, I'm all for cheering on great shots, and encouraging the players, but what they do in those stands is preposterous. Them yelling "oooooooHHHHHH" on near misses and and accidental safeties, cheering for mistakes on team USA part such as scratches and positional errors. And, singing some absurd songs like it's a fvcking football game, I mean come on.

I even saw Jason Shaw in the stands with his wife and he looked ashamed of even sitting next to this bunch of yahoos.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it's always been this way with the Mosconi cup. It's really annoying to watch, and I don't know if I would condone this behavior as a Team Europe player

Come on, there was plenty of this from the US fans, too.

Nowhere near as annoying as that "Team all in, all the time!" rubbish, or "When I say *insert player's first name* you say *insert player's last name*, blah, blah, blah."

Matchroom obviously encourage that kind of atmosphere and most of the players seem to enjoy it. I didn't see anything cross the line this year - actually, I think someone let off an airhorn while a European player was breaking at one point, but that could easily have been an accident and was a one off.

I was there, and there were only about 20 of the Europeans that were super vocal. Most of them seemed between 20-30 years old and being from Europe they are most likely soccer fans and used to this kind of thing. On the other hand there were hundreds of Americans there (I believe the attendance was 1000?) and they were getting owned by just 20 Europeans. There were a couple of American players who are pros sitting by me, I never saw them chant USA once, they were very quiet.
Of the Europeans that were vocal it was mostly one or two specific ones, one got kicked out after the first or second day, he was wearing a bad tiger costume, like a kids halloween costume.
The Europeans even kept talking while their own players were shooting.
As for the Americans, the worst was when Albin Ouscean (probably misspelled this) was shooting. If he missed there was lots of "Nice shot Jasmine" (referring to his sister) and people chanting "we want Jasmine. He seemed unbothered by it though. I think he was on xanax, he was so dead and emotionless when he played, it was very strange. Imagine you are playing the match to win it for your team, you would think you would show a bit of emotion. At one point when Sky was shooting his head was drooping and his eyes were closed, it looked like he was nodding out.

"Dear Donkey Puncher,"

As is the case every year, the best part of the Mosconi Cup is that IT IS OVER!

No more uniforms. No more team spirit. No more fans who cheer the errors of the other team. No more fake, bureaucrat-invented Europe spirit. (Anyone read the newspaper the last year about how that's going?) No more buxom ladies standing around with nothing to do. No more bad sportsmanship and ginned up rivalry. No more class-C Vegas casino atmosphere. No more short sets.

The Mosconi Cup isn't pool. It's rollerball.

The Euros are very good with their chants. We will need to work on that part of our game if we want to compete with them in 2017.;)

IMHO it is all in good fun and the chanting is all part of it. I must say there were quite a few remarks that were made from the US fans that were not only in bad taste but embarrassing for me and quite a few others around me.

The Euros are a very funny and loud lot that I enjoy being at the event with, and at the end of the match cheered out team just as loud as theirs.

Lol. So would you rather have the atmosphere of a chess match? Pool is what it is. Snooker has etiquette. 3c has tradition. Pool has a party atmosphere... Comparable to darts. If you want to sit in silence and cheer for both teams go to the crucible. Pool, and especially the Mosconi Cup is fun. The crowds participation this year added to the atmosphere.

Pool is seriously lacking young blood. This kind of atmosphere at the Mosconi Cup will catch the attention of young people to watch it.

The Americans gave just as good as they got in terms of jeering and being rowdy. And I'm glad they did. It made for good viewing.

I agree 100%. For the first time in years the MC played in the States didn't look and sound like it was played in a cemetery. Great venue and good crowd overall. I hope they stick with the Tropicana.

Good post Pidge....Were you there? This year was many times as exciting as it was in 2013. The crowd was bigger and much more into the games, so were the players.
This just keeps getting better and better:cool:

Nobody died. At soccer matches in Europe people often do. Compared to the usual soccer match crowd this was rather tame.

No. But I wish I was it looked great. When its next in the UK I will be going.

Yes, I would rather sit in silence and, under a mask of neutrality, watch the two players demonstrate their skill and nerve. Smattterings of applause would not be unwelcome if a player pulled off a commendable shot or escaped a deadlock trap. Inside, I might be rooting for one side or the other. Outside I would attempt not to reveal my partiality. It would come out at the end of the match, when the congratulations were spread around, who was on whose side.

I was at a regional nine-ball tournament recently. There were a great many people in the room who had a sizeable material interest in the outcome of the matches towards the end. In the quarterfinal or semifinal match, someone yelled, "Go, Smith!" Several heads shot around in the direction of the person who had yelled this. It just isn't the done thing in pool.

As for the younger generation, let them follow my way for once instead of I, theirs. Do you really even want most young people around your sport? Do you think they add anything, other than money in the till? All I notice that they usually do, with rare exception, is pull down the atmosphere. I embrace the exceptions. I attempt to ignore the run of the mine, but that is often not possible.

Look at a billiard tournament on Kazoom or a snooker tournament from England. Does a raucous pool tournament or one of those events have more young people in the crowd of the sort you would want in your home room?

Pool is not a game that was brought up to be played in an arena like other sports with shouting fans. Watch the scene from Blues Brothers where they go to a fancy restaurant. That's about how rowdy fans fit into and present themselves during a pool match played outside of league in a bar.

The chants and everything are fine. The only thing i don't like and think is disrespectful is when people start cheering when a player has messed up shape and is still at the table. Wait until his turn is over to start cheering.

If you want longevity for the sport a bunch of old farts in the audience clapping every now and then isn't going to help. When I look at the average pool crowd I see people on their death beds or with 20 years mac left in them. Without younger people attending events 30 years from now the crowds will be 5 strong. You are the typical pool fan. Thinking it deserves respect. Open your eyes and see 9 ball for what it is... A very simple game that anyone can be good at. Its action packed and fast paced which attracts rowdy crowds especially when its a team event.

If you watch premier league snooker again its made to be action packed and faster paced than other snooker competitions... The crowds are just as rowdy. If you don't want rowdy crowds go watch a race to 1000. Races to 5 are going to get the emotions running because every mistake or great shot counts so much.

European standards for public behavior at a sporting event are a little different from Americans. It was all in fun, when the Americans win then we be as obnoxious as we want, until then, well... I guess we just have to eat shit and like it

Soccer hooligans lol

If I would have had the money that I have now back in my 20's when I partied pretty much every night, I would have hired a group of them to follow me around. No matter how blackout stupid drunk I got, I'd still look like a composed Brad Pitt compared to those clowns.
