team-mates that tell you how to play

you might be a great guy to hang out with and play pool against, you might even be a pretty good player. but... your attitude you display here would make you a piss poor teamate.

its sad to say but i became a piss poor teamate while in vegas this year. i am the captain and i was calling timouts and tellig every body what to do every time i thought it necessary.

why did i do it ? because they needed it, or at least i thought they did. the 2 girls played great. the other 2 guys sucked.. i mean they sucked so bad they could suck the felt off the table. then i realized no amount of time outs could correct stupidity so i copped an attitude and said fvck it let them look stupid.

i got real serious out there . i got so serious i played the best i ever have i got so serious i was not having fun and was not a very good teamate. i will not make that mistake a 2nd time if we ever go to vegas again. during the regular session i never call timouts, i always wait for my teamates to ask for one.

the other day i was looking at the team pictures we had made in vegas and realized both guys had that deer in the headlights look on their faces and then it finally hit me. they both had that look all week in vegas . guess some people fold under pressure and my calling timouts pretty often added to their pressure.

I'm a great teammate and I didn't know it. I don't try to do anything. I play well, respect others, and most of all have fun and love the game. This in turn prompted the house team to ask me to play for the men's and co-ed league. I can't do both. So since I love old people. I hang out with the old folk sip gin and tonics playin in the co-ed league. Hearing those stories are the best. And when I really want to play I'll get in the tournaments. There is a table at the room that is free to select league players and I haven't payed for pool in months. So I guess your right I am a good guy to play with and I'm loved on the team also. It's just a game. Win or loose it's all for fun. And that's all I play for. I wish other people could do the same cause it doesn't sound like their having fun.

I am sooooo lucky. On my team we have a Canadian Snooker Champion (and 13 time Saskatchewan champ) and a multiple time provincial 8/9 ball champ. Asking them for advice doesn't work that well, but when they decide to offer some advice it is typically golden ... and like those old ads on TV, there are others leaning in to hear what they say. I am sooooo lucky to play with these guys and my game has gone up a ball or two from the experience. Keep an open mind folks, try new things with no preconcieved notions, pay attention to the results, and you WILL improve.

I would love to have a teamate who was a good player to get advice from, Im not blowing my own horn here, I just dont want advice from someone not qualified to offer it. My captain always tells me I aim too low on the cue ball and that I should be hitting above the center line. This very same captain has miscued on his breaks at least 5 times in the last year so bad that sometimes he doesnt even hit the rack, one nite 2 trys in a row:rotflmao1: He breaks with extreme top spin thnking its good to drive the cue ball thru the rack but never considering the consequenses of having the cue ball stuck to the top rail after the break.
