Tell me about Jay Swanson

You're spot on with all your assessments. I know how well Swanee played, not because I played him but because I know pool and the intricacies involved to play upper echelon world class speed. Swanee was one of my favorite players to watch when he played, he made an impact on every top player that he was noone to fool with, he was well respected as a top top player and a man.

I do not remember the year but I just started playing pool and I overheard Hawaiian Brian talking who were the best players.

I do not remember the other names but Brian said you were the best 9 ball player.

You were the best commentator on Accu-Stats.

I would like to Direct Message a story about Lambert's in Baton Rouge.

Jay "Swanee" Swanson is surely the best pool player ever to come out of San Diego. There are several things people will always remember about him - he had one of the smoothest strokes in the game (would make your mouth water), he had incredible cue ball control using what looked like very little effort, he played world class pool and he was a gentle giant.

He developed his game at San Diego's College Billiards, where many good players hung out, including Roy Stanzionne, Billy Graves, Max Olds, Shaun Murphy, Mondo Gomez, Rick Lingley, Dave Sparks and many, many more.
Max Olds, guy could play lights out, yes college billiards had good players, but billiard tavern down town that was the best, college was a shrine to swanee, up till it became a 3 cushion hall.

So I played out of College after Swanee's time up until after Pedro bought the place and switched it to mostly 3 cushion. Never got to meet Swannee. I didn't go down that way in my early years of playing and I took 6 years off there until I joined the navy in 2000.

It's hard to imagine that that's been more than 20 years ago now. The main high level players that came in while I was there were Chip Klein, Sam Manoale, Victor Castro and Louis Ulrich. There were a couple of others but I never paid attention to names, just faces.

If I recall Grady Mathews said he never saw Jay Swanson shoot an incorrect shot. I believe that is on one of my Accu-Stats DVD matches from the Sands Regency Tournament in Reno back in the 1990s.
