Texas One Shot - the Game!

Had a guy on this site say he and his friend played one game of Texas One Shot, decided it was too hard, and immediately try to turn it into a points game. If it was easy it would not be fun. It is a game that rewards a player for trying the hard shots. Riding the 9 sounds easy until you have to do it every shot. You would think a scratch would lead to a quick finish but that is not always true. This game let's you see if you really know that shot. You find out where you need to improve real quick.

I appear the fool? I play games I like. I am seeking to get the sport I love into the Olympics. I created an excuse to drive across the state I love and play pool with folks I have never met while trying to my make childhood dream a possibility for the children of today. I am willing to do it on my own dime too. I am from the South. Here is another thing we say- Kiss My A$$!

I never said anything bad about what ever games you are so dominant in. I offer you a chance to try something truly innovative. Evolving past having to make a ball to shoot again to having to have a chance to win to shoot again. If the 9 does not move you never stood a chance of winning. I seems like knocking a ball into one of six 4" pockets may be easier than knocking a ball into a specific ball that is only 2 1/4 in size and moves around a lot.

It requires as much thinking as 1pocket, you need every skiill ever mastered in the game to play well, bangers really enjoy it and players can dominate. And it is very watchable!

It is a very offensive game but defense can be smart. Texas One Shot can be forgiving- if the 9 rolls up to the pocket and stops, it is still your shot, it moved. It can also be very punishing- if you make the last object ball but fail to move the 9 your opponent can keep moving the 9 until they win!

Yes, I am from Austin- but I was born there, I don't wear panties! However, I do stand up for myself.

You missed the point entirely. This game languishes and always has for various reasons throughout its history. Its greatest enemy here in this country for the last 70 years has been bar boxes, adopted by those that can’t play the game properly, slowly at first, but now like a plague to where the USA, whose players once dominated this game, are now an afterthought to players from a host of other countries who in 25 years have now replaced US players, not because of anything other than the play the game on a proper table.

You speak of traveling around and working to get this sport included in the Olympics, which it should be in. Yet at the same time you try to promote some bastardized version of the game that flies in the face of reestablishing the game proper here in this country, you don’t see the irony in that?

If players in this country are EVER going to return to prominence in the pro game on the world stage then they need to return to the game proper, abandon bar boxes, abandon bastardized versions of it such as your invented game, that’s my point. You can’t promote it for the Olympics on one hand and undermine with the other hand.

I understand bar boxes play different from 9 foot tables with tight pockets. The bar box table is much more crowded and the cloth usually a lot slower and often balls do not roll true. I am so glad they exist because they allow pool to be played in every honkyv tonk in Texas.

I also know a big reason pool has not been in the Olympics is a lack of standardized rules. The same game is played around the world with different rules. i.e. If a ball goes off the table does it go on the spot or is it considered dead and goes in a pocket? Equipment varies around the world too. Heyball, carom, 9Ball and snooker are all played on different tables. The IOC will need to make tough choices but that does not make Texas One Shot illegitimate. I can push for Cue Sports as a whole to be in the Olympics while saying, hey world, here is a fun new game to try in the same breath without feeling bad about it at all.

Your point seems to be only your game, played by your rules should be considered and all else is blasphemy. The reality is games change all the time. The rules for 9Ball in the 70's are different from today. Will Texas One Shot force the world to conform and we all play a same game all the time, no way. I like playing different games. What I learn from one game can help me improve in another. Does TX1Shot offer true innovation to the sport, play a race to three and find out. A single game of 9Ball tells you nothing about who the better player is just as a single game of TX1Shot does not allow one to see the potential of the game.

Give the game a shot and you might see its potential for teaching, learning, excitement watchability and even gambling if that is your thing. TX1Shot is truly innovative, find out for yourself.
