Texas Open AUG 29- SEPT 1 $4000 added

raffle cue

Also for this event, James Henshew of Waco Texas has donated a jam up cue to be raffled at the Open.

Why? James simnply loves this event and wanted his name on it.

He has even told me that there are at least 1, maybe 2 guys who have offered to buy the cue from the winner for $1000. What a deal?!

James is a good man and one hell of a cue maker. We thank him so much for his generosity.

the raffle cue is coming along nicely, with luck i should have it finished a week before the open. it has an ebony forearm and buttsleeve, ivory joint and butt, silver rings, tiger maple points, black alligator or lizard wrap ( havnt decided yet, they are both the nuts on this cue so its hard to decide ), some ivory inlays in the buttsleeve along with ivory inlays of the state of texas, two shafts, and joint protectors. i will post pics as soon as i get it finished. also open to opinions on whether to go with alligator or lizard. thanks

I know this is going to be a great cue. James has put a lot of valuable time into this and has looked forward to it for a long time now.

Awesome

I have seen this cue in person last week. It is awesome!!! The ivory inlays he is using are stunning!!

Here's an excerpt from Pool Billiard News;

The man that has won the most times is an amateur player, an executive with a furniture company in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Bob Vanover. Mr. Vanover has won the State Championship a record eight times, including six of them in a row. For that feat and his remarkable sportsmanship, a sterling silver championship trophy standing almost three feet in height now bears his name. The Vanover Cup has engraved the name of every man to ever win the 9-ball championship of the state of Texas.

I wonder who's name will go on it this year?

Last chance for early entries. They should be post marked for today the 18th.

Lewis is right, last year I missed the deadline and $300 was a stinger for me and Jr.!!! Especially since we are simply added money!! LOL.

Ray

ps. I think I beat this guy once?

Donating for a good cause. I'm in as well. New feld, new balls & new bridges. I love it. The place looks really nice.

Confirmed

He will be there, but I think a Texan will win!!!

All right! Since I am a Texan, so it shouldn't be too hard for me to win, right Ray?

Right. Sure. LOL!

Someone should post a bounty on Shane. Whoever knocks him out gets something. A lot of great players, but he still has to be the favorite.

I know they have new cloth and balls, but I'm not sure if they've tightened up the tables any. The last time I was there, the tables played semi-loose, so any top player could take it on a looser table.

Especially

Especially you!! Living right there by the tables!!!LOL:D

I'm surprised there's no Gabe Owens on that list! With the large # of pros that attend from all over, Texans seem to dominate.

I can't wait to see this cue James. I know how hard you have worked on it.

Again, your generosity towards this event is just overwhelming.

Thanks so much.

thank yall both very much. the texas open has got to be my favorite events of the year. great players and matches and lots of action. Lewis and Paul do a fantastic job running the tournament. GQ's does an amazing job getting the place ready to handle the crowd, i tip my hat off to them for all the work they do and bringing in bleachers every year. i get to watch and learn from what could possibly be the greatest cue repair man ever.....(Ron Geyer ) and i get to see the new cues that Jerry comes up with. I wont give details but i was in Jerry's shop a month or two ago and he was working on some cues that were unbelivable, i may have to buy one for myself.........i would also like to add that since i got into the cue and cue repair buisness that Jerry and Ron are some of the nicest guys i have met and have helped me tremendously......i couldnt say enough good things about either of them. i am glad to do what i can to support the tx open and hope to still be supporting it when it is the 70th annual tx open. my wife and i are just glad that it doesnt interfere with the opening weekend of dove season this year!!! ........ yes thats right my wife loves to go dove hunting........could i be any luckier?
