Plus a couple of guys like Rafael Martinez, Gabe Owen, and a Texas boy named Tommy Sanders as well. Then there are always a couple who sneak in.

anyone know what the count is up to? last I head it was 60-70 players so far. The group I'm coming with is putting in 7 players. I bet you $10.00 I'lll have to play one of them first!

I hope I get to play Shane first. It will be easy after that!

LOL. I started out playing Sylver last year. I lost 9-6.

I fought through the one loss side and lose, one from the money, to a guy that sharked me the whole match. It was scary quiet at 9am and he kept crunching sunflower seeds while I was shooting & moving in front of me!

I guess I was too sensitive, but it doesn't make it OK.

See you'all there!

Careful what you wish for!!!!!

Just think, it could be Shane, Tommy, Chen, David H, Sylver, Jeremy, and I heard that Rodney and Shawn were in Houston last night, just to name a few.

Gabe also called yesterday.

I wish more people would voice this to the owners. I brought it up with Gary last night because the last few major events I have been to in NY & Jacksonville were non-smoking and everyone seemed to love it. I suggested non-smoking before 9pm while under 21 is allowed in and he thinks that if he makes it non-smoking for the weekend he will lose a lot of business. He said, "if I do that everyone will leave."

Since the OBCues tour went non-smoking I have loved it! I wish all events were that way. The smoke was pretty miserable last year.

This is a bit funny to me because I know a few local players who would have brought in more business if it were smoke-free! :p

I don't think it's smoking in general... just that from what I've heard, it gets unbearably smokey in there... so much that it affects the players.

True

If the smoke gets bad, I will leave immediately after my match.

I think when the owners & TD's are smokers it falls on deaf ears. Until the entire state goes non-smoking we will just have to breath it in!!

You can always take air breaks on the front sidewalk!! LOL.:D

I wonder how many air breaks we get per match?

I agree about the smoking. G-Cue is the WORST place in all of the pool halls I've been to in the Austin area for smoke. You can smell the smoke 10 feet from outside the door! And there is a cloud of smoke hanging around inside the place. Its disgusting, not to mention unhealthy!

I seriously doubt they would lose business if they went non-smoking during the event. I live about 3 miles from G-Cue but you won't find me in there all day every day during this event because of the smoke. And because I'm not there all day, I'll spend less money.

If the owners ever want the Texas Open to be the highly respectable pool tournament that they think it is, they should consider being professional about the whole thing and taking it seriously. Look at the BCA... if they can accomplish to get the world's largest pool tournament to be non-smoking, and not lose business, anyone can do it! Losing business is the poorest excuse ever and just shows unwillingness to change.

I challenge the owners to ask the crowd during the player's meeting on Friday night with a show of hands how many people would like the event to be non-smoking next year. They might be surprised! Hell, try counting the number of smokers vs. non-smokers on Friday night and see what the numbers say.

I'm with ya. That place is horrible when it's crowded. I think if they made the smokers go outside, the crowd inside wouldn't seem so bad so more people would come in to watch. I think they'd make more money. The total attendance at anyone one point would be full bar inside plus a bunch of people outside smoking. The smokers aren't going to stay outside long - they'll want another beer. Everyone, especially the players would enjoy not having smoke in the eyes and lungs. I hope they consider this for the future....

Yes! I remember last year being absolutely miserable because of the heat too. Heat mixed with the smoke is just unbearable sometimes.

Lewis, it might mean more coming from you so that would be great if you could suggest to him that we discuss it at the players meeting like Shayla suggested. I know lots of the players and their guests leave in between matches specifically to get some air away from the smoke. I make it a point to go somewhere else to eat, eating in smokey places makes me sick.

I will make the call in the morning. Mind you, all I can do is suggest it.

FWIW< I smoke like a train and it bothers me too.

Smoking at Tournament

The state of Texas legislature is going to pass a smoking ban for all businesses state-wide when they next get in to session. Until such time, Round Rock is still one of the few places left in the area to smoke and play pool.

G Cue Billiards is a smoking establishment and has regular patrons who frequent it because of this ability to smoke. We have installed two exhaust fans that eject smoke outside during peak hours, which most certainly will be the case during this tournament.

Allowing smoking certainly does not reflect on our "professionalism" nor our love of the game of billiards.

Btw, CrisDeLaGarza, who won last Sunday tourney at G Cue? Man! That boy was strong! Texans, watch out! The S. Dakota kid is in town already trying to get a feel of the tables.
