I am petitioning for the Governor of Texas to declare it is in the Best Interest of Texans that pool (cue sports) be included as an Olympic event in time for the Texas BiCentennial which coincides with the 2036 Olympic Games. It is an achievable goal and Texas has the ear of the world as the US Open Pool Championships and the Texas 9Ball Open approach. Since the birth of Texas in 1836 pool has been part of the States rich culture. As a Texan I am proud the loud and respected voice of Texas can be used to lead the call for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to make Pool a Gold Medal Sport! It is only fitting the timing coincide with the 200th birthday of Texas.

This is a call to action for other States and Countries to also raise awareness of the popularity of all the various types of cue sports to the point the IOC is compelled to include Pool in the Olympics. I am a Texan so it will not be hard find me at the pre-opening event Monday at Rollertown Brewery, inside and out at the US Open, at Snookers Billiard Hall or Stixx and Stones from the 24th-30th. This is a proper petition aimed at getting any form of cue sports into the Olympics, not a specific game. It asks for date, name, signature, age, county and zip code with an OPTION to leave contact information. Age is asked for to demonstrate that Texans of all ages, young and old, want pool in the Olympics. County, with a Zip code as a verifier to show the signer is a true Texan. Contact information is optional because I am not making spam list for politicians! I encourage especially the youth to sign for it is their future and us old farts who have long waited so long for this to come to pass.

For full disclosure, personally, I do not want just any form of pool in the Olympics. I want my game in the Olympics- Texas One Shot(TM). I may not be good enough at pool to be in the Olympics but my game is! If I was a betting man I would put my money on Pool being an Olympic sport by 2036 and that Texas One Shot will be played at least as a demonstration game at the 2036 Olympics. The odds must be extremely long for a game just 3 years on the market making it to Olympic play when Pool itself is not in the Olympics yet!

I will also be in Round Rock for the Texas 9Ball Open at Skinny Bob's over Labor Day Week. The Drive across Texas for Olympic Pool will began after the Texas Open concludes. From Dalhart to Brownsville and from El Paso to Texarkana I will drive across Texas seeking signatures and raising awareness of Pool and the Olympics and Texas One Shot following the trail of leagues across Texas. No one asked me to do this but a grassroots push is all that it will take to get pool into the Olympic Games. The hard part was done by others before me in getting the IOC to recognize Pool as a sport with an International Controlling Body. Viewership is up for Pool, now let the IOC find out how much pent-up demand there is for Olympic Pool.

I am trying to make sure Texas does its share to get pool into the Olympics. I'll be taking my time going across Texas chasing signatures. My plan is to turn in the petition on or about March 2, 2027. The Legislature will be in session and Texas will be 191 years old. Only 9 years until the 2036 Olympics and the Texas Bicentennial.

Let me know when the other 49 states decide to do something about Olympic pool. I will offer my support. Please, do something!

The call goes out to other countries as well. Do something. I know the EU was big in getting pool accepted by the IOC as a sport. Now a public outcry is needed to compel the IOC to act. Here in Texas people are saying it is about time pool becomes an Olympic event. We may be loud and we sure are proud but we are not all talk! My goal is 25,400 hard copy live signatures by March. 100 for each of our 254 counties. I am going to rack up a lot of miles driving across Texas but I expect to meet the finest people and shoot a lot of pool along the way. I am barely started but have almost 100 signatures from 7 counties. No one wants to sign a petition around here until they hear the words Olympic Pool, then they are proud to sign it.
 
The US Olympic Committee doesn't even recognize cue sports, even though the IOC does.

If you want to make a difference, I think you need to do some more homework.

The 2036 venue for the Summer Games will be decided in 2029, probably. The US will not be in the running. The host country has a major say in what new events are debuted. Break dancing was in the Paris games at the initiative of the French Olympic Committee. I think the best chance for cue sports is through an invitation from the host organizer. Break dancing is gone now, BTW.

Part of your homework is contacting USA CueSports which will be leading any serious effort to get USOPC recognition for cue sports in the US.
 
Agree that snooker and pool (10b, i think) should be olympic sports (similar to world team?).
US wouldn't medal in our lifetimes though.

The WCBS (World Confederation of Billiard Sports), which sets the disciplines for such international events, has most recently used a format that includes pool and heyball, snooker, and 3-cushion.

Disciplines at The World Games 2025: Carom (3 Cushion), Pool (10-Ball & Heyball), and Snooker (6-Reds & 15-Reds).​

Thank you Bob for pointing out the work needed here in the US. You have a much larger reference base than I do. Until 3 years ago being a barroom hack was good for me and watching pool was far from my mind. Olympic pool was a forgotten childhood dream. The venue is not my concern but the timing is. I do not know what motivates people in other parts of the world but in Texas pride in our state is very motivational. The 200th birthday of Texas lining up with with the 2036 Olympics along with all the World Class pool being played in Texas this month makes this the perfect time for Texans to draw attention to a cause we have had pent-up for a lifetime.

It is because the Olympics made such poor choices for Events in the recent past that we have hope pool can finally find its way into the Olympics. Like it or not Texas has a lot political power and a respected voice that is heard around the world and maybe even by the US Olympic Committee. I have been busy doing my homework for 3 years and look forward to chasing down other resources. I am also doing the hard work, finding my own way to raise awareness in my little part of the world. Maybe others around the world will be motivated by the actions taken here in Texas.

You have one of the most respected voices on this forum Bob and I am honored you weighed in so early in the conversation. I welcome any words of wisdom you care to offer. I hope we cross paths in Frisco next week.

I am so glad to find out that the USA was not responsible for Break Dancing in the Olympics. I also understand your point as to why the host country is important.

I found cuesportsusa.com which has an excellent list of pool halls by state. I found usacuesports.org that seems to be having server issues at this time. I also found a facebook page for USA Cue Sports which is up and running with a focus on Heyball. The last two seem to have a strong connection with the BCA, an organization I respect. Randy Geottlicher of the BCA is the man I approached with Texas One Shot (TOS) and he liked the game enough to host a test tournament. The players left comments about the experience. I was told to focus on the youth, old men have not mastered the games they already play. Good advice. I will reach out to Shane for any input he may have on the subject of Olympic Pool. Please advise if I am looking in the wrong spot for what you intended.
