textbook grip?

with a textbook grip is the meaty part of your hand(the web between thumb and pointer) directly over the cue? or are some people naturally over to the right or left?
i know theres plenty of good players that play with the web over to the left or right. im just trying to figure out if there is an ideal.

The ideal grip is one where the cue is cradled in the grip hand. The grip should remain loose and relaxed and CONSISTENT throughout the delivery of the cuestick through the CB.

I've studied this quite a bit and have come to the conclusion that a variety of grips can work. There are three tendencies as described in the following thread.

One thing you will note of all the Filipinos is that they grip the cue in a similar manner. Just as there is the "Filipino Bridge", there is the "Filipino Grip". I describe it a bit in the following thread. The punch line is they grip the cue with the thumb & forefinger (only) and the rest of the fingers mearly float upon the cue (although they appear to be in full contact). The thumb points directly at the ground.
