Thank God for Replay in Busta vs. Peach Match at WPC

Of course not....

Yes, replay was always available and you cant say that it wouldn't be fair. Would it be fair if Bustamante got away with a bad hit and made the 9 to win the match?!!

Of course it would not be right for Jango to "get away with it". I was just saying, if the rules are; a human eye must make the call and if that call is right or wrong it stands. Then that's how it should have been. I believe the integrity of any event is in jeopardy if the rules are not the same for every match and every player.

I like instant replay. I think with technology what it is today, it would be easy for all the refs at an event to have a camera for quick reviews. Most people want things to unfold correctly.

I was watching a match between Karen Corr and Jennifer Baretta.Karen attempted a jump shot cross table and skimmed the top of the imposing ball. No one saw it!!! The referee was watching, the crowd was watching, Jennifer was watching. No one said a word! "the booth" definetely would've called replay. It was easy to see on TV, especially with DVR. This is only one issue with instant replay. Does the player have to call for it? Does the referee? How about a coach? Spectator? Camera man?

Hope to see more of it in major events........for everyone playing.

How do you figure that sjm? I understand that Francisco isn't required to call the foul on himself. What does it say about his character? He knew he fouled. It was plain as day. He was going to take the win anyway. That tells me a whole bunch about the state of pool today in the Philippines and everywhere else. We have all been in similar situations. I always have and always will call fouls on myself just for my own integrity.

How was it plain as day? It took slow motion replays from many different angles to determine that the nine ball was contacted a hair before the other ball. I hope all your days aren't that plain.

I watched the video and I saw the 9 ball move. It is that simple my friend. I certainly didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Busta knew it also.;)

There are plenty of us who think it was clear as day. Us, the players, the referee, and the commentators (Jim Wych & Pat Holtz). There are others who still can't make their mind up after watching forensic slow motion replays. I wonder which ones make good referees. I only know if someone pointed upwards and said 'Is it a bird or a plane?' and someone else said 'Oooh, look at the lesser spotted reed warbler' I'd know who had the better eyesight.

Your right Purdman, he knew it. You could see it in his eyes. Then the crowd starting reaching for his hand and he got caught up in it. He was then invested in his actions. He should have called it on himself. IMO

According to referee Nigel Rees, he would have called a foul if there was no replay to consult:

""My gut reaction was thinking that it was a foul but we had the benefit of a (television) replay. We went to the replay for quite a while...but they are the rules and you have to make the right call. Whoever made that shot, that's the call I would've made."

As to the legality of consulting the video replay, here is what Thomas Overbeck, the WPA Sports Director and senior rules official at the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship, said:

"The ruling is that the ref must make a decision before the next shot is made. An opponent can always ask for a referee for a reconsideration if it was a foul...Nigel straight away said 'I have to check it out' and the correct procedure was followed.

It wasn't plain as day to me. I had to watch it a couple of times. But the ref saw it and wanted to confirm it. He's got better eyes than me and he is right there. IMO he got it right.

I agree he knew it was a foul, look at his face right after the 9 dropped, he looked up to see if he could gert the crowd behind him there was a split second where he looked unsure, when he got the crowd he played it up big. Just like basketball players flopping on the floor trying to get a foul on the other guy or in football acting like they crossed the goal line, it dosent hurt the sport its done in all sports, he needed the win, glory and $$$. I dont blame him a bit, He would suck as a poker player it was a huge tell,

There was a slight chance he rocked the 3 hit the 9 then re0hit the 3 to roll it but it didnt look that way to me, it was without a doubt a foul. And he did what he could for his cause, whats he suppost to do lay down and die? hand the CB to "Fuzzy"-it dosent happen in other sports and sure as hell aint gonna happen in pool.

Is it my imagination, or did Busta turn beet red at the exact time that he was shaking hands ? After the nine fell, and he crouched and exalted, he seemed sheepish as he turned and began to celebrate with his supporters. I've always liked Django, but I think he tried to pull a move...Tom

My first thought

When I saw it that was my first thought. But that was on youtube. After seeing it over and over I think the right call was made. IMO
