The 5 best 9/10 ball players in the world

Well I’m thinking about a player who in the W10B knocked out the reigning champion and the only player to beat him is the current champion. Yet I don’t see him on anybody’s list. And, the azbilliards winnings list has him in the top 5.

Too late for riddles. :)

The funny thing is that none of these guys want to gamble with Dennis.

Jay,
I realize Dennis is your buddy and everyone should respect his game. The reality is that everyone picks their spot. Most gamblers don't want a coin flip. Nevertheless D.O. hasn't always cashed all his tickets. Players can also be streaky.

Hey Jay

How good would Dennis be if he was gambling with his own money in long sets with winner breaks?

Playing with your own cash changes things and in my opinion that is the mark of a real "action player".

I don't see Denis in the top 5 if that is the case. But, I also believe you know lots more bout it then I do.

Chang does

Okay, you are correct. Of the listed players above only Chang will gamble even with Dennis. They have played more than once with mixed results. Filler turned Dennis down for a game, also more than once. So has Shane.

Yes I am biased, as is everybody else on here. But I do know that Dennis is one of the top five 9-Ball/Ten Ball players on the planet right now. He is still the #1 player in the Philippines and that says a lot right there. His specialty is money games, but his tournament results speak for themselves.

By the way, it is a misnomer to believe that Dennis will not gamble with his own money. That is simply not the case! He has put his own money in on just about every big money match he has played, unless he was short of money at the time. He is willing and able to bet all his own money if need be, and has on many occasions. I've seen him empty out in a game quite a few times, betting everything he had!

With rotation pool being such high variance, these lists are useless unless you specify how far back in time you want to go.

I'll take
Filler
Shane
Dennis
Chang
Wu
Ko 1
Ko 2
Shaw
Kaci

Over him every time.

I’m easily confused. Didn’t Filler knock out the (then) reigning champion (Ko Pin Yi)?

I guess you meant Alex, who beat Big Ko early on (but didn’t knock him out).

Chas is upset that he didn’t appear on this list

It’s not wise to get the Hillbilly mad...

Wu
Filler
SVB
Jun Lin Chang
Biado

Yup, it was a close call for me regarding fifth best between Shaw and Biado. The gold and silver medal that Carlo Biado won at the last two World 9-ball Championships have to be taken very seriously. He very nearly defended his World 9-ball title, beating SVB this year in the semis before losing to Filler in the final.

... and he's got some heart, too. I was there when he raced Kaci to 21, and came back from 10-0 behind to win at Steinway Billiards in Queens, NY last autumn.

That said, Shaw's undefeated runs in Stage 1 at both the US Open 9-ball and the World 10-ball Championship are no small feats. In each case, he drew WPA #1 Filler in Stage 2 and was beaten, but Josh is one tough opponent right now.

Jay, I stand corrected.

I stand corrected Jay. I quote you.

Like I said sir, you know lots more about pool then I do. I am not a gambler, did some of it in high school when I was playing in one of Mark Griffins old Anchorage pool halls. I won most of the time as there was not much competition and I was a high schooler. But I never felt good about getting money hat way so I quit doing it.

I also knew who to avoid playing, one of my few strong points. LOL

I am ignorant in pool, but I feel like a great match would be high stakes, long match Alex vs Dennis 1P. I'm taking Alex.

(and yes I did just see Alex get beat)

Regards,

John
