The Action Pool Tour: new tour for the VA, MD, and NC region!

This is a brand new pool tour that is looking to take off soon! Although there are no events scheduled yet, discussions are taking place with numerous pool rooms right now. Visit www.actionpooltour.com to see how these events will be organized and leave your comments on the "Contacts" page.

This tour is being created because there is a serious void in the Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina region that desperately needs to be filled. There are tons of pool players at all skill levels that love to compete but do not have a very good outlet to do so. The Action Pool Tour wants to be that outlet.

Once some of the event dates are set, we will post an article on the "Headlines" section of AZBilliards, so watch for it. Also, pool room owners who are interested in hosting an event can visit the "Contacts" page of the website or email admin@actionpooltour.com.

A suggestion: Put the dates of the event on the flyer so they are printable.

Also, I hope that you are planning on taking notice of the other events that are around here that are currently scheduled as to not have overlapping events. Planet Pool and GSBT are currently have events around here.

I have to agree with Perks on this one... Make sure to be in contact with all the promoters of the big rooms in the VA / MD area or you may have light turn outs for your events. Billy over at Champions in Shirlington and Curtis whom does promotions at Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie. Im sure that Champions in Fredrick is gonna throw more evetns. Also have the VA States at Diamonds in July and the Bob Stocks 9 Ball in Sterling in September. Im sure im missing a whole bunch but just a heads up ;)

Hope all goes well with everything and i hope that i can make future events in the fall if you're still throwing events.

Good luck :D

A few items of note.

I think it is great that you're doing this, but I wanted to take the opportunity to point out a few things, if I may.

  1. I cannot speak for Virginia or North Carolina, but the serious drought in Maryland is no more. I began running monthly tournaments at Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie last September, and have had full fields every time.
  2. Planet Pool is back! Micke Ricciardella and Jose Burgos have had a few successful events already, and also have multiple events scheduled at Top Hat as well.
  3. Having a new tour is great, but grouping NC with MD and VA is a bit of a stretch, IMO. I would include MD,DC,VA,DE,PA purely from a geographical perspective.
  4. Since you're trying to start a new tour, you may want to identify yourself, or your team. I must confess I have not checked your website yet, I am typing this quickly at the office (should be working), so if you have done so I apologize.

Lastly, I would check with the following people as beetle suggested, because lately, Maryland seems to be doing quite well regarding tournaments.

Big Daddy's Billiards
Glen Burnie, MD
Owners: Cindy & Rick Molineiro
410.760.1332

Triple Nine's Billiards
Elkridge, MD
Owner: Stan
Tournament Director: Linda Shea (also runs JPNEWT events)
410.799.1818

You already know of Billy Stephen's place in Arlington. He has monthly tournaments on the last Saturday of every month.

All-Star Billiards
Frederick, MD
Owners: Larry & Peggy Nicholson

Of course, Planet Pool is in full swing, so you may run into conflicts.

(You may also want to check in on the newly-owned VIP Billiards in Ellicott City, MD. There are 20 9' tables there!)

Good luck and I hope you succeed.

Might want to consider Champions in Shirlington since there isnt much for us NOVA guys.

High Cue in Arlington aswell. Reall hike up to MD for some of us VA guys :(

Nothing added with 1/4 of the field getting a payout? I am gonna have to pass on this one. I dont mind driving several hours for a tourney but my Ford Excursion needs a bigger payout to keep gas in it.

Thanks for the Comments!

Beetle:
Sorry that you will miss the first event. However, please note that the date was changed from June 18-19 to June 11-12 to not interfere with Father's Day. It would be great if you could attend.

Perk:
The dates have been added to the flyers. I coincidentally realized this ommission before I read your post. However, I appreciate the heads up. Please continue to "keep me on my toes."

RunoutJJ & inside_english:
Great information...thank you! I actually have already spoken to many of the room owners that you have suggested...but you gave me some great information and I appreciate it. I have taken great pains to not schedule any of our events on top of Planet Pool or the GSBT. Splitting players will not help any of us...especially the players.

I'm sorry that your not interested in our event. However, I think you may want to reconsider because there will be plenty of ways to play and win some cash...players auction, break & run raffle, ring games, 2nd chance tournament, etc. However, that is easy for me to say because I don't drive a tank that probably costs $100 to fill up. It would be great if you could join us!

Everyone:
If you would like your local room to host one of our events, please spread the word and tell them to contact me at admin@actionpooltour.com. I will respond the very same day. Thanks.

Rating Players

Sorry jdxprs...I missed that one.

Professional players (for the most part) are known. I know many of the players in the area and information is fairly easy to find on the others. I don't believe a player will ever be overrated. However, there will probably be occasions when a player sneeks under the radar and is initially underrated. However, his or her performance will quickly give away the true skill level and the rating will be adjusted accordingly. The good news is that if a player is underrated, it will not affect the outcome of any matches because there is no match handicap...only entry fees. I hope this helps and I hope to see you at Top Hat Cue Club on June 11-12.

how do i know what my buy in will be? im by no means pro. im just a league player.
Just because you're a league player doesn't mean you're not a good player.
I know people who play in leagues and are very strong, and they are not pros.

APT Ratings

Well, if you're not a pro you know that your entry fee will not be $90. It will either be $60, $50, or $40. If I don't already know you, I will research your performance in other events to get an idea of your skill level. If there is no information on you (which is rare), I will ask others who may know you. Generally, I will be able to accurately rate your skill level using this approach.

You also know your true ability. If you have played in other events and finished high against strong competition, chances are you will be rated high. If you have consistently lost to strong competition, you will probably be rated lower. I hope this helps and I hope to see you at the Top Hat Cue Club on June 11-12!
