The APA 9 ball team CHAMPIONS disqualified

HAAA!!! I had written the post and then inserted the part about it being TAP, not you. You must have read it with the same thought patter.

That many misspells, pretty Busch League, oh wait, that's APA old name...

Now that's funny!

I can tell you don't play TAP League. I like TAP League but you see a pattern of what is going on after a while. :rotflmao1:

There is a real art form to winning the trip to the Nationals and winning title holders every year...and keeping the same players and the same handicaps.:poke:

I'm not on a winning team but wish I was.:crying:

This is here you find the start of the problem (handicap) - then you add "you have to WIN the right to go to Nationals" (the carrot) and you end up encouraging baggers & cheaters.

Give me BCAPL any day - one on one - no handicap - satisfy their very reasonable eligibilty requirements - pay your entry fee & GO COMPETE.

AND they only collect a $15 (cheap) annual card fee, they do not participate in one dime of our local prize fund.

You forgot to mention the best part of the BCAPL player sanctioning program. You can play in ten leagues in five different cities and still only pay $15!!!! Best value on the planet.

1. If your going to boycott TAP then you better boycott the BCA and APA as well. Why? This was posted on Face Book by JT....tired of getting beat by undercapped players? or getting overcapped?or better yet same teams winning? LETS GET BCA GOING IN LATROBE /GREENSBURGH! cant beat it..no bagging, no cheating only need 4 teams to start and u win and you get the $ and the trip...you cant beat it....So you may as well boycott the BCA too. He is a current BCA player along with I believe 3 of the 4 men on that team. BCA didn't toss them out and now they are trying to get a league closer to home to play in because they know I won't put up with any cheating in TAP.

2. While your at it you better boycott the APA as well. Why? They have at least 4 TAP players in their league that I have banned for life for cheating. Accepted with open arms and business as usual for them.

3. Remember...these players were in TAP for years. They didn't just come over to TAP after they were banned in the APA.

4. It's funny...Players cheat in another league and you people point the finger at TAP...Amazing what is on this board. I think I am going to boycott this forum. Waste of my time. PS...While you people will still be on here typing away and bashing people, TAP will be running another sold out Rally at the Expo. Think about that.

oh and no apa cheaters are in tap wrong
around here the word i got was go to tap
24 rule and known 6 or 7s are 4 's not interested in that
leagues are leagues that what i think!

When my APA team finished 17-24th in Vegas a few years ago, both teams that beat us were disqualified after their subsequent matches, meaning that we were out of the tournament, without any recourse, and no explanation or apology. That left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I didn't return to league for several years.

Then, earlier this year, I begrudgingly signed up with a random APA team because I missed playing league, and there are WAY more APA leagues here than anything else. My very first week, in practice before our match, the SL3 on my new team casually broke and ran two consecutive racks of 9-ball, nice and smooth, then bragged that we had one of the best-sandbagged teams in the league.

I walked out at that moment and decided I simply can't play APA league any more. Yes, APA league is fun, and I've had some great experiences, especially working with newer players, but it seems like the sandbagging and cheating stuff is literally built into the system.

I like having fun, and APA was usually great for that, but I also like to play fair and square (win or lose). When you're playing in the advanced rounds in Vegas, try telling yourself that you're just in it to have fun, so it doesn't matter of you were cheated. It's very hard to do that and not become bitter about all the cheating, especially when there seems to be no real effort to prevent it. I WAS having fun - until the cheating showed up again!

The more I read this thread, the better I feel about my decision. Every post reminds me of my own experiences with the APA.

Good riddance!

Ex-APA SL7 & SL9

P.S. I now play in a tiny in-house BCA league, and I love it.

I know things and players like this exist, but a 3 playing like what your describing...an 8... someone who can break and run consecutive racks without a problem...? This seems extreme and rare enough that you should have told the LO instead of walking out, I can't imagine that is the norm.... a league full of open level players seeing how crappy they can shoot?

What's interesting about this is if it happened in any other sport in America, the team which won the national championship in the most popular league was caught cheating and banned, it would be a headline story in ESPN.

In pool it is a thread on azbilliards and nobody outside the world of pool cares. Maybe that's because everybody assumes pool is full of cheating. Are they correct?

I don't think it's b/c everybody assumes pool is full of cheating, I think it's because nobody outside AZbilliards cares about pool. It's a small world, and the people who are passionate about it are passionate. Everybody else thinks it's a fun way to spend a date. Nothing wrong with that, it's just a different mindset.

It is indeed disappointing, but media outlets report on things that pay the bills. They put pool and dog shows on in spots where they can't compete with an event running concurrently on another network, simply because they have to fill the time while nobody's watching. It's disappointing, but not surprising, that they don't report these things.

While we're comparing our sport with others, how does APA's handling of the cheaters compare with other sports?

It was big news when the New England Patriots were caught spying on other teams' practices on their way to three super bowl titles. They were caught and punished. The punishment? Fines, donated to NFL Charities. I think they lost a draft pick or two. They got to keep their trophies, and the teams they cheated along the way got nothing.

Lance Armstrong was stripped of all those Tour de France titles. What did the racers who lost to him get? Nothing.

We see it all the time in college football. Sanctions imposed on programs, usually consisting of bowl bans and loss of scholarships. They never have to repay the money they got for going to bowls while they were cheating, and the teams they beat along the way get nothing. Reggie Bush returned his Heisman trophy, but it wasn't awarded to the runner-up. The Heisman trophy site lists no winner for 2005. It doesn't say "Reggie Bush - DQ".

Major League Baseball? Players get suspended without pay for use of performance-enhancing drugs. But what about the honest players who didn't put up the big numbers and thus were cheated out of the big payday contracts? They get nothing.

I don't speak for the national office. I don't necessarily agree with their decision to donate whatever money they recover to charity (and they are prepared to go to court to recover the money if necessary). But I can understand the decision, and it does seem to be in line with what other organizations do when it is discovered WELL AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF AN EVENT that somebody cheated. Oh, and anyone who thinks they somehow make out on tax day by donating the money needs a reality check. They will also have to declare whatever they recover as revenue. It's a zero-sum game unless they keep the money, and they have no intention of doing that. They have already spent a lot of time and effort investigating and dealing with these guys, and they're not done yet - all for no financial gain. That doesn't sound like an organization that only cares about the bottom line, does it?

Absolutely great post. My myopic view of this very difficult situation allowed me to "look at it through rose colored glasses". Thanks for reminding me of reality.

this is my team...HE NEVER SHOWED A FAKE ID... not 1 team carded him...he is a apa 4 and played in place of a apa 4 the first 2 days till our 5th player got there... we had 3 7s and couldnt shoot 5 players to make 23 till the late 2nd day of play... we won that shit legit, if they allowed a roster change we wouldnt of had to cheat... and its not like we played a 7 as a 4...he is a 4 as a 4..and still a 4 now altho we got thrown out for 2 years and they "asked" for the $ back...you think were gonna repay 15k??

You are a EPIC idiot.....

we cheated big deal... im not saying what we did was right, i know it was wrong but its not as bad as everyones making it out to be...

this is why this country is in the shitter. People like this spin things into a way to make themselves feel like it's ok to do whatever they want when they want.

Have some f'n RESPECT for the game, for all the other people who followed the rules, hell...try to have some respect for yourself.

Well said APA Operator.

However normally the sanctions placed against those teams & players typically cost them a whole lot more than their prize earnings/trophy’s in the end. Justice will be served!

The only justice here is hopefully seeing these arrogant fools get what they deserve, a serious reality check with very serious consequences. As a billiards community we can only hope that this captain’s ill-faded attempt to justify his teams idiotic logic has pushed not only the APA but the teams they cheated to the ultimate breaking point where each take action. Hopefully this brazen attempt at cheating the system finds these individuals a whole lot deeper in debt than their $10,000 prize. Kudos to the APA for seeing this thru! Hopefully TAP see’s the light before it’s too late for their league and players. These cheaters have shown their true colors, it simply couldn’t be any clearer.

Yeah, I probably overreacted to something that was an isolated situation. Maybe it was just bad timing, because this type of thing (maybe not as extreme) was the only reason I was hesitant to rejoin. My first night back on a team, and BAM! There is was.

I wish I could just shrug my shoulders, let it go, and have fun playing pool with my friends. I guess it's just hard for me to see it, knowing that this type of thing might come back and bite my team in the butt later on down the road.

Anyway, good point, and I encourage others who might find themselves in that situation to react rationally, keep things in perspective, and decide for themselves if it's a big enough issue that they would rather miss out on what is usually a very fun pool playing experience.

zsapa's supposedly not allowed to send any teams to vegas for 2 years as punishment. as far as playing a 4 for a 4, the guy that played has been a 5 in 8 ball for quite a while.
