The BCA and College Pool Rooms.

Here is an idea for promoting the game:

College campuses all over the country have pool rooms in their student unions. What is stopping the BCA from connecting student life directors and BCA instructors to form college leagues, tournaments and classes. The rooms are there, the students are there, instructors need work and universities like to see rooms used. Win win situation that does not require a major investment.
 
Good Question. I ask Basic the same question about instruction for those school with carom table to USBA. No answer. But they want to promote???????????

I think there are many fewer college pool rooms than there used to be, and I don't think student interest in the game is all that high (from what I've seen, video games are much more popular among college students than pool).
 
I think this is a very good question, and assumed it has been asked in the past. What has been done in the past to reach out to colleges, and what has failed?

My oldest is enrolled at Cornell, he said a two minute walk from his dorm is a well appointed but small pool room. Six well lit Brunswick's with plenty of space around them. According to my boy there is usually students playing at this room. My college had a great student union with eight Gold crowns you couldn't keep me away from. This topic makes me wonder how many tables are set up on campuses around this country?
 
There are a couple of BCA instructors who teach college classes....but not enough. I have tried to get a program going at our local university, which has about a dozen GCs in the student center...but the college administration isn't interested.

The Union at Sacramento State University (CSUS) had about 14-16 tables (never really counted) of decent quality, no brunswick or diamond but nice tables nonetheless.

This would be a great idea, pool isn't gonna become popular overnight and we need start getting future players interested in the game. Supply and demand, we have the supply we just need demand. I believe a ball banger can't truly appreciate the sport without knowing exactly how complex or well thought out each shot was, and how much more is involved than just pocketing balls.

This is a really good idea, if it every was to get off the ground.
 
As a post statement: I think if their was to be an exhibition match held between some decent players, some of the more well known players, in gamerooms im sure it would attract new blood to our sport.
