There are some terrific new cue makers on the scene these days and choosing one to have a custom cue made could be a tough decision.
We're not talking about the Barry Szamboti's and Bill Strouds who all deserve their rights in the cuemaker's hall of fame, but rather the new guys, lets say in the last 5 years or so. The "mover's and shaker's of the industry" who will eventully make it up there in the next 20 years.
I've seen some really nice work in the past year from 2 guys that that I know of. Lets see if we can get some names and testimonials.
My votes are listed as a poll, but there are only a few I know of.

I dont know how long he has been making cue's but Andy Gilbert makes a damn nice cue.

Theres a couple guys i know who have one or two of them and they look so nice, and they swear up n down, the cue is the best hitting/playing cue they have ever used.

So i would say in a probably the soon to be future he will have a long waiting time like some of the other big name cue makers.

How long has Travis Nicklish (Blackcreek) been making cues?
He'd have to be considered one of the best within a short amount of time IMO.
Jack Madden is another great new cuemaker.
Kerry Zeiler, but not sure if the 5 year rule applies.

Art Cantando's been in the buisness for a little while and he learned from Barry. His cues are really selling.

Gotta go w/ my guy Pat Diveney. I tried lots of cues over the years and I can't say that any other cue felt has felt more 'at home' in my hands.

Let's see...he's been making cues since 1982. 2 from 5 = 3; 8 from 10 (carry the one down the line from the 2) = 2; MY GOD...23 years....NOPE, didn't make the 5 year rule. :p :D (I thought math class was only hard for chicks)

I think Capone has been at it for more than five years too.

I wasnt paying attention, I think Bob started building cues in 96 or 97 so he wouldnt qualify either.

Travis Niklich of Blackcreek Cues
Bryan Mordt of BCM Cues
Kenneth Murrell

Not sure how long the following makers have been at it, but their names were not prominent 5 years ago, at least not in my neck of the woods.

Chris Nitti
Skip Weston

I'd agree with that! Travis makes a great looking and great playing cue. (I might be kinda biased tho! lol :D)

How long has Jacoby been on the scene? He has a relatively high output volume, but his best work is incredible.

Capone

My vote goes to Mike Capone, but I am biased because I own an ebony and snakewood cue built by Capone that is awesome. I have owned cues from Southwest and Mike Bender not to mention a number of production cues, and the Capone is my all time favorite.

I do agree that Andy Gilbert and Blackcreek should be added to this list. I don't know how long Andy has been building cues, but both of these names are up and coming cue makers.

Capone Custom Cues are individually crafted by Mike Capone. He uses the finest rare woods and materials from around the world. Since his start in 1993 he was quickly recognized by his peers as one of the finest new cue makers on the scene and was immediately inducted into the American Cue Makers Association.

5 years or so? Capone started 12 years ago!

Bruce, Thanks for the pictures. I can see that his work deserves a lot of attention. nice detail!

Think Jack's work is not the Sameo, Sameo, that many builders fall into. I like what he does with Alaskan Moose Antler... ;)
