Mika is not the first 'Ice Man' as you have pointed out. However, many genuine nicknames have had duplicates -- sometimes operating at the same time. The biggest beef I have with a lot of todays so-called nicknames is that they are just marketing inventions, and do not really reflect how other actual players refer to the person. I suspect Mika's use falls into that category. A genuine nickname sticks of its own accord, because it fits!!

I appreciate the opening poster's respect for the work I put into creating my list (over the last 4-5 years), rather than seeing it copied & pasted over here.

The old-time player/hustler Alton Whitlow was also "Baby Face".

Mike Davis is one of those guys that has a nice easy simple name that often does not naturally attract a nickname -- in fact I seem to remember a thread on AZ where people were making suggestions. But if a nickname truly fits, often even if a guy wants nothing to do with it, it sticks like chewing gum on a hot day :)
 
what about local players? guys that aren't known around the globe but still have nicknames

i hear there's a guy in sacramento that people call the "Snake" not sure if that's because he plays pool though

The nicknames that really stick are the most fun. With the exception of St. Louis Louie, most city or state related nickname's, do nothing but define where that person originated.

I respect the love and effort that Steve has shown to the pool world for many years. This is why I made effort to remove nicknames he already has. I am more than happy for Steve's list to be "The Definitive List of Nicknames of Pool Players".


BTW Efren was and always has been at the top of the list (on onepocket's original list), just not alphabetically. Never did I copy any other list either, but am happy to defer.
 
So what does that Fabio Petroni (or whatever his name is) end up with for a nick name...

Skull Crusher

or something else???
