The differance in Aramith balls

I am trying to decide on a nice set of balls for my new table. I have it narrowed down to the pro set and the tournament set. I cant really tell the differance between them. I really like the look of the tourny balls. Is there really anything different between them? Thanks for the Help.
 
The Tournament set uses a different phenolic resin which Aramith calls Duramith. It supposedly offers a longer life and less wear on the table cloth. If you do a search here on this Forum of Aramith Balls, there's quite a few comments comparing the Super Pro and the Duramith balls. The Tournament set is significantly higher in cost.
 
As already posted there is a difference in the material used. If you go to Aramiths website you may find some info.

As best as I can describe it is the surface difference would be like comparing 500 grit sandpaper to 2000 grit. The resin used it finer so the surface is smoother.

If you shop around you can get the Tourney balls for around $200. A little more than the Super Pros but they will probably give you more satisfaction. Look at it this way, the cost may only be a couple cases of beer or a few drinks in a bar.

Get the Tournament.

I agree. I got the Tourney set for Christmas and love them. I don't know if it's in my head but the sound at contact is a crisper sound than what I am used to hearing with other Aramith balls, maybe because they are new and clean?

In any case, even if they don't minimize burn marks, have an increased longevity over the other Aramith balls and increase the lifespan of your cloth, I would have paid the extra $$ just for the looks.
I think they are the best looking balls, and the extra money you spend on them will be soon forgotten but you will have the balls forever! :grin-square:
 
I have always used Centennials, but I received a set of the Aramith Tourney balls for Christmas. There is no difference - that I can detect - between the play of the Tourneys and the Centennials (ran some comparison tests and all were equal). But the Tourneys certainly do stay clean much longer. The object balls hardly ever pick up any chalk dust. I've never seen balls that stay so clean for so long. That may be a good sign for cloth longevity.

The Centennials are still the best looking balls, however (my opinion).
 
I agree with the previous post. I have had super pro's for a year and a half and bought a set of tourneys a week ago. I have always polished the set once a week. When I cleaned the tourneys today they looked as shiny before I polished them as the super pro's did after. I got mine from Joerackem.com Nielsen's are great to deal with.
