The gamblers mind set just doesn't get it.

I'm afraid this won't be the last story you hear like this. Poker = young people amassing amazing wealth & celebrity in short order leading to poor choices and financial disaster. That's IF they ever win in the first place...most don't & go home penniless before the party ever starts.

Just last week we had a thread about people who never gamble and a bunch of degredation theretowards.

Its' stuff like this that reinforces the point why I don't bother to gamble.

Now when it comes to poker and pool, one can play pool and never gamble, but playing poker without gambling is not much more fun than playing tiddly winks.

This is funny, whenever a citizen doesn't pay his taxes, they become idiots.
Whenever politicians don't pay their taxes it's an honest mistake. Go figure.

This doesn't have anything with being a gambler. This is just somebody that didn't pay their taxes who happens to be a gambler. That's just my opinion.

yep! it's not like that was the guy's steady income. it was just a 1 time thing. they should really rethink taxing big wins like that

No, he is an idiot. He should have taken it right of the top and paid the tax. Then if he pi$$es away the rest so what. You have any idea what he will end up owing with penalties and interest over time?

what for? so the fat cats in washington can whack it up and all take their cut. he did the right thing.

Did I miss something? What does this have to do with pool? One guy doesn't pay his taxes and you're knocking all those who like to gamble? No pool player will ever owe $300,000 in back taxes.

Its really funny how quick people are ready to give their hard earned money to the goverment. I totally believe in taxes, but what we have now is just greed. The politician just keep asking us, hard working citizens, to keep up with their wasteful spending. So this guy gots fortunate and makes a good score. Lets say he has been playing for 6 years causing him to have an overhead of 250,000. You think the goverment would allow him to deduct this amount from his winnings? I don't think so.
Goverment/Politicians tax us for Greed not for Need.

i know a guy that won 30k. he lost it all in 4 months playing 3/6 and didn't bother paying the tax on it. or at least that's how the story goes

if you keep receipts for your losses to prove you've lost as much as you've won, you don't have to pay tax (since you didn't really win). I worked at a horse track, and every once in a while you'd see some guy scooping up losing tickets from the ground, to 'prove' their losses. must have been a good win!

in the case of pool players, since the income is taxable, the expenses are deductible. this means entry, airfare, hotel, food, cue repair, all of it is deductible from winnings before tax. a smart pool player should never have to pay tax on winnings.

just some morning thoughts.

From what I read, he blamed it on his accountant.

Anyway...Here is the story of the poker pro that some will consider got his just deserve and some will consider he got a serious blow of bad luck.

This guy was/is a poker pro that would go to vegas for months at a time. He would get a rental car, and always cash out his winnings. To avoid reporting the money he would not deposit the money in the bank, he would just throw the cash into a bag. One night he got back to his hotel and it was late and he forgot the bag in the trunk of his car.

Wouldn't you know the next morning he came down and the car had been stolen. Can you say bad beat for the tune of about $75k

I wonder of the person that stole the car ever looked in the trunk?????
