The Giant Killer: W T H?

Joey just get a bigger sling:thumbup:. I got no answers for you. Only advice is go back to the basics. Preshot routine, line it up, practice strokes, shoot , the balls in the hole. No more no less.

Mark Shuman

Is that a sling like the one SmorgassBored used at an RSB tournament back in the day or just Little David's sling you're talking about. I could probably use both. :D

I go to a tournament this weekend and the tournament director is bidding me in the Calcutta and starts talking about how I am a Giant Killer. I really don't like being called a Giant Killer. Every now and then I win a match against a good player but it is really rare. To have the tournament director blowing smoke up my arse and all of the other bidders just to get the price of my bid up is ridiculous.

Because of this, (at least that's what I'm blaming my latest mediocre play on) I played poorly and got whacked so hard by Rob Saez that I'm sitting here at my desk whining my arse off wondering why some people have to exaggerate my capabilities and why I have a problem with them doing that.
Rob beat me 9-2. I gave him at least 4 games, i mean handed them to him on a silver platter. I don't mind losing, well I don't like losing but I can tolerate it if I played my average speed. One of the other players said I shouldn't be so hard on myself. I'm steamed because I lost but also the Giant Killer BS chaps my arse too. I know the tournament director is just trying to hype my skills but is that really fair to me or any of the Calcutta buyers?

What can I do to not let this type of name calling negatively affect my game? That's the question. Do you have any answers for me? I'm serious. I don't think I will be able to go to sleep until someone gives me a reasonable solution that I can implement.

I'm going back tomorrow morning. I'm still in the tournament on the one loss side, hanging by a thread and will give my best effort tomorrow. My best effort to day wasn't equal to my average level of play. What to do? What to do?

Thanks, I'll be checking this thread tomorrow morning to see if there are any good suggestions that I can use and move on from here.

By whackin GOLIATH and outrunnin the nuts DAVID got a lot of pub. The dirty lil secret is that the giants prevail 99.999 of the time.

No shame in being carried out on your shield as long as you gave your all in the pit.

Joey...

Joey..
Its gonna happen and it will probably happen again. It's all part of the process of improvement...and you are improving.
I can't tell you the number of professional golfers in the world who have won one week and didn't even make the cut the next week.
If what you are really pissed about is doing in front of a lot of people who you don't know (but you know they are out there, read:stream audience) forget about it. At least you are putting it on the line. I'm just sitting here safely watching.
You are on the right road, stay the course.

Thanks Tommy.

I'm back safe and sound in my own little domain. In my final match for the tournament, I got beat by an MMA guy who looked like he had too big and hard of muscles to play pool. It was a rough weekend. I feel like I went in the cage with the guy. I put it on the line every chance I can afford to. It's what I enjoy doing. Next month I have to step it up. Instead of 6 champions in the tournament, there will be like 32 in that one. :D

I understand how Joey feels

Really. Ever since i was able to "get lucky" and beat Scott Frost, giving him 10-7, those damn calcutta folks keep calling me "World Champion" :p. Talk about pressure!

I feel your pain Joey.

Joey ol pal. you do not need to be letting little stuff like...Giant Killer
enter your mind during play. Calcutta is buyer beware. It is all about
you and YOUR game, not someones opinion. Correct or not
Sounds like a focus problem.

It looks like I got beat by the tournament winner Rob Saez and his road partner Blair Thein of Pool, Poker & Pain . (I know for sure that Rob was playing in the finals against Sho-nuff, Brandon Shuff) but I couldn't keep my eyes open to watch the finish. Kind of curious where Blair finished.

Gonna take more than a whole lotta advice to beat Saez.

He is a damn good player. Capable of playing perfect pool for long periods of time.

Look on the positive side -- if Gingerbread Man saw your match with Rob, he might stop running. :D

(I did watch your match with Rob and one more after that. It definitely seemed like something in your head was preventing you from playing to your potential against Rob).

LOL. That's sure looking on the bright side of things.

I gave Rob quite a few games. Yes, he plays very well like BB said but I would have felt a lot better if he had earned them rather than just accepting my gift.

Since Blair Thein also opened a can of azz-whup on me too, maybe he will remember that while I have difficulty shooting a straight in shot, I can talk a good game and invite me to do some pool commentary when POOL, POKER & PAIN becomes a reality TV show.

All in all, this past weekend tournament was just another lesson in school. I came back to Buffalo Billiards last night and stopped in and managed to get in a quick set of 9 ball and managed to lower my out of pocket expenses for the weekend.

If you go to the link above, you can listen and see the interview with Doug Stanley, (the Producer of Discovery Channel's "DEADLIEST CATCH".)

Blair is a tenacious guy not just inside of the cage when he is fighting and he is hanging onto his dream and you have to pull for a guy like that.

Ignore it. And quit blaming yourself for others bumping up your rep to enlarge the calcutta pot. You know yourself and to hell with what others think. You've been around too long to let this get to ya!
