The GSBT hosted The Sanford Open @ Speakeazy Billiards in Sanford, NC this weekend. With a talented field of 38 players- top players include Mike Davis, Larry Nevel, Shannon Daulton, Mike Fuller, Wade Crane, & tour regular Eddie Little. The event went off without a hitch on Saturday at 2:00 and the night ending with 16 players advancing to Sunday.

The 16 players that returned on Sunday:

Mike Fuller / Jeff Pruitt

The one-loss side:

Jay Jeffries / Younger Chapman

The matches started at 1:00 and I will post an update after the round.If you are in the area come check out Speakeazy Billiards. This pool room is amazing and the people here in Sanford are AWESOME!!

Yes I am in the room. The match is over with Nevel taking down The Cannon by a score of 9-6.

Speakeazy Billiards pictures

Speakeazy Billiards is a very original and unique pool room. Jimmie Bullis, the owner, is an antiques collector and had added a taste of his collection to this room. With 14 Gold Crowns, the room is very spacious and comfortable. I am posting a few pictures of this room. If you are ever in Sanford, NC or in the area be sure to stop in and I know you won't be disappointed.

speakeasy has been there for about 20 odd years , it oepned back in my early years . you ever here of a fat fellow named harold dollar??? he used to be the local gambler there. that is right in my neck of the woods ,and my daughter and her friends still play time to time. the overall feel of the place is about the same as it used to be ,saford is a small town any have a few billiard rooms in town but speakeasy is honestly the nicest in town in pool parlors .i will save my sanford comments for a sanford thread . i have not been there in years since putting 2 table in our house. i think guy name mike and his dad owned it or might still own it. another place is called breakers in same area.


hey coop what are wearing , i might just ride up that way to say hi to a fellow azer : ) i had no idea that was going on lol . how long are the matches going on for ?? and what do you look like . i might ride over and say hi lol

Hello My name is Marge and I am Shannon's girlfriend. I will be the one running the tourny here at Speakeazy. You should come by - the finals will be around 9- the quarter-finals are going on now. And there are some other Az ers here.

WOW this brings back GREAT memories for me!! Jimmy Bullis is a great guy and runs a very nice establisment. I played there many times before moving to Chi town and have nothing but great memories of Sanford and NC in general!! Damn I will miss the Sanford Pottery festival also... Tim Lafferty is also a real character, they have some great players in NC and I see from the list several are in attendance. Mike Fuller and his Dad Peaches are also great folks wish I was there right now!!!

You are right there are NICE folks here- I feel like I have known them my whole life! We have had a great time here in Sanford and will be back here for a tourney in November.
