I'm now checking out AzBilliards on my brand-new AOL DSL connection. It ain't the FASTEST, but it sure does beat dial-up! :D

BTW, for all of my D.C. comrades, there is a brand-new Tuesday night weekly 9-ball tournament, $20 entry fee, being held at Galaxy Billiards in Silver Spring, MD, beginning sharply at 8:00 p.m.

There is no excuse to not stay in stroke in the D.C. metro area. For a mere $20 or $25 entry fee, check out these weekly mini tournaments:

Mondays: Bill and Billie's Cuesports in Arnold, MD, 8:00 p.m.

Tuesdays: Galaxy Billiards in Silver Spring, MD, 8:00 p.m. AND Champions [now called something else] in Laurel, MD, 8:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD, 8:00 p.m.

Thursdays: First Break in Sterling, VA, 8:00 p.m. [watch out for that Brandon kid (LOL)]

Sundays: Top Hat in Baltimore, MD, at 12:00 noon.

The most notable difference I recognized was when you 'download' files, it is much much faster, or when you play 'movies'.

I'll meet you in the pit, Jim, with a comfortable CHAIR! This year, I am most definitely bringing my own. I remember my poor swollen feet at the end of the week last year. :o

I can't wait to get there. Those concrete floors really do a number on your feet and legs, not to mention if you have any kind of back ailments as I do, it really wears you down. Counting down to pool nirvana.

Congratulations on getting DSL!!! Sounds like MD/VA have a lot of good tournaments. For the $20 entry, what does 1st pay?

Thanks for the congrats. The DSL is much nicer, but I do not like the e-mail feature within the AOL DSL. It is slow as a turtle.

First place payouts vary depending on the amount of players that show up. I have seen tournaments with turnouts as low as 8 players and as high as 32. The Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday tournaments add $100 to the money pot if 16 players or more attend. So payouts do vary, with the highest I've seen being $400 for first and the lowest $110 for first. They usually pay out four spots, but sometimes if a lot of players show up, they will pay out eight spots, which is great because it keeps folks coming back.

BTW, some of the tournaments, the ladies get to shoot for FREE, but do play EVEN with the gents, and at others, the ladies get the call-8 and pay $5 less than the gents. :)

I really enjoy the weekly tournaments. It's a wonderful way to keep in stroke and meet up with friends. The other night, we went to Orange Ball, and first round, racing to 7, a local good player named Jerry Goober ran a 5-pack on Keith, knocking him out. Then last night, we went to Galaxy, and Jersey John made three 9-balls on the break, racing to 7, defeating Keith on a hill-hill. There is, in fact, quite a cadre of STRONG players in the D.C. area. ;)

Winning a little bit of tax-free money is always welcome in my camp, but with us, it's more about just getting out of the house or, as Keith would say, "You gotta let the horse out of the barn once in a while." :p
