The hardest thing to teach lower skill level players

When I teach students, one thing I love teaching them is to "Play the ghost".
I've found it doesn't matter where they are in their game, either a full rack or just 3 balls. If they can get some time on the table alone and play the ghost they will begin to understand the importance of patterns. If they don't run out they lose. So they must pay attention to which ball should be made first.
 
Playing the ghost def does help...and brady quit *****ing about my handicap we all know its messed up!! I mean really how is it that I dont lose racks have only nine misses and get dropped a s/l? Can anyone answer that question?
 
Yes I like playing the ghost, it teaches a good lesson being that if you miss your shot you "lose" to the ghost. It can also help with a players shotmaking because if you miss position you must come with a good shot to avoid a loss to the ghost. I didn't think of using less balls and teaching a novice this way but I imagine it would work great.

walk up to the table and take it away from them right in the middle of their match. when they ask why, explain it to them. should fix the problem.
