The Hustler

Hi Jay, Well I don't know if this Hustle was introduced by you or anyone else but this happened at least once that I know of. Without sharing names or places, here are the particulars.

Two high powered players were playing 9 ball. A race to whatever for ( at the time ) a sizable sum of money. The cash was posted over the table and in the lights.
The match ran on and culminated in a hill - hill encounter. The breaker scattered the balls and held the cue ball dead center pocketing two balls and ideal position on the one. He proceeded to run the balls through to the 9 ball which was straight in and for all intents and purposes, a hanger. A few practice strokes and just as the follow through was about to be delivered. Slam! His opponent blocked the shot with his cue stick. "Foul! You touched to cue ball on that last stroke!"

The argument reached fever pitch. Back and forth they went, accusing and denying with no quarter given on either side. "Ask anyone who was watching". said the shooter. " I don't need to ask anyone. I know what I saw. They aren't in the game anyway and have no say here". He was right about that, even if he may have been wrong about the foul.

How would you settle this one. Can it be proved either way? I think not unless you have a gun and are winning to go to jail.

They pulled the money down, split it down the middle, and one of the two began contemplating his revenge.

Cute guy, huh?

I don't who did it but I love that story about some hustler betting big on hitting a ball in a corner of a room .
Turns out the floor wasn't close to being level and the ball always ended in that corner .

The late cue maker Judd used to have a loaded shaft. The shaft had pellets under the ferrule. It caused the cue ball to squirt so much, you'd miss the object ball entirely if you had any english on the cue ball. I saw Efren get tricked on it at Alex Lao's house. They made Efren try to shoot a 3-rail shape ( end rail to end rail ) on an 8-ball that was a duck in one corner while the 9 was in the opposite end/corner . Efren missed the shot twice and he threw the cue stick in disgust. We were laughing so hard b/c he couldn't even make the 8.
Imagine if someone slipped a house cue in there with loaded ferrule ?
