The JB Aiming System - Discuss

Well, this apparantly is what it was all about?

John believes in an aiming system that does not work and has been scientifically and conclusively proven not to work, where the user of the system just bears down on their shots more and ultimately subconsciously just aims instinctively and makes the aiming adjustment corrections using experience just like every other non system using person. Lou has explained this to John many times. John is not a science guy and doesn't get it and thinks that it actually works by magic in some other way other than the user ultimately just making subconscious aiming adjustments based on experience.

They have argued about it on several forums for years, maybe like 8 years. Lou points out that his aiming system is nonsense and doesn't at all work the way he thinks it does, and John makes a drama out of it every time screaming from the highest roof top he can find. Rinse repeat. Add in some forum bans here and there. Add in tons of barking back and forth over the years, mostly from John saying that with his aiming system (which has changed significantly and many times over those years by the way) you won't ever miss a ball (ok I'm exaggerating a little on this one but not by very much) and that with his system he would wipe the floor with Lou if they ever matched up. It took years but they finally made the game happen.

Hmmmm interesting...

The problem with "aiming systems" is that they may or may not work. I myself have a perfect aiming system. My eyes, which see perfectly. The problem I have, like most other people, is delivering the shot with my arm that my brain has asked for based on the information it has received from my eyes.

Consider darts. It is the easiest sport in the world. You have the dart in your hand. You can see the target. There are no angles to consider. There is the target. The treble twenty. But yet, mortals like us, fail to consistently deliver the dart to the target because our bodies are unable to meet the expectations of our eyes and our brain.

From experience, however, most pool players, especially on american equipment - especially into the corners which are ridiculously easy to pot into, fail not from delivery of a shot to cause a pot but more from a loss of position as a result of a lack of understanding of the path of the white after contact with the object ball. The result is that shots on (if even on) become increasingly harder until the run fails.

QUIT CREATING THREADS ABOUT THE MATCH, THE FEUD, OR THE AIMING SYSTEMS. First of all there is an aiming section for this. Secondly, you couldn't just post in another one of the threads but felt compelled to start a new one?

Well absolutely.

I considered that the reason for the match in the first place justified a thread of its own, ESPECIALLY in light of the thread below thread (and my reply therein - quoted below).

Threads have a natural life, if you do not agree then do not post and the thread wil die and disappear down the list into obscurity - or report it to a mod and it will be killed.

If I have offended you or anyone else or broken some kind of rule I am unaware of, I apologise.

There was an African American man sitting next to Barton and his wife. Lou could not see this man at first. From Lou’s perspective, this guy was behind a pillar. Between shots, this man would cover his mouth and whisper to Barton.

A couple of guys who were sweating the match that had a different perspective than Lou noticed this, but they did not say anything.

After play last night, Barton was confronted with the accusation that he was being coached; he admitted it.

I thought this was all over an aiming system that JB had created and raved about? Needing a coach would prove that the system is flawed and therefore, even if he had won it would have been a false victory.

A great quote for Ron Swanson...

That has just explained the last few year's of my life perfectly.

Dude, trust me, you are waaaay over your head on this one. These people are American - never forget that. They see all sorts of crazy and then sell you the solution.

Just go to the Aiming Forum and observe. It's special.

Once again, no need to create 122 threads on this match...just post in an existing...

Also see attached for the aiming section where you will find plenty of discussion by John and others. You are welcome.

There is a whole forum section dedicated to aiming systems??

I'm going to invent something for pool that might or might not work and then flog it to everyone in the US :grin-square:

I have only created one thread. this one.

I have only just discovered (herein) that there was a section on aiming systems - perhaps a mod could move this please?

Sigh...NOT You creating 122 threads, the public. It will all die down soon until he starts running his mouth again about playing I am sure. Don't worry, I helped report it so it can get moved to the right section, that way you can still discuss it just not on the main forum area. Good luck.

This forum is fantastic. It's a never ending goldmine of insanity. If you've not been to the Aiming section, you've probably never been to NPR, either. You might fit in rather well there lol.

The Instructors forum is worth checking out. Just remember one thing: they know everything about how to teach pool and hate it when young upstarts from other countries try to butt in and correct them.

"Put your chin on the cue..." is considered radical advice in some parts.

I might invent the "toothbrush", and sell them to you fools in England, you prolly still won't buy them, but hey, it's worth a shot
