Yes, it sucks to be them, but if they think, or if anyone thinks that they are ENTITLED to have a say in what she does, or anyone that they buy in the calcutta, they are wrong.

I thought that If I bought some budweisers for a chic in the night club she was expected to stay with me whole night.U mean to say that she can go round the club and talk to other guys? Dang ,the values are changing fast in this society.:thumbup: :grin-square: :thumbup:

This was an open tournament, as there are many out there. There are also men's only tournaments and women's only tournaments. You're complaint is ridiculous.

At this point in time, if you don't believe that Jeanette Lee is good for the $70, then you have easy access to locate her and get the money in advance. Instead you sit in the crowd, remaining difficult to distinguish, even if you happen to be within 5 feet of her, or whatever. You make no effort to complete the agreed upon transaction.

Afterwards, you insist that she has no claim to half of the calcutta...

You can play it that way if you choose, but personally in this case (knowing that you have no reason to doubt someone like Jeanette Lee), I think I'd honor my word in the verbal agreement rather than try to stiff Jeanette Lee on a couple of hundred bucks.

I agree that no one can make a player do anything. I dont think anyone can argue the simple and basic rules of the calcutta. You buy a particular player and you have to give them an option to buy half of themselves. This option is only open until the bracket are posted. Once those are posted that option is no longer on the table. Now I have seen the buyer still give one of the top players half as long as an hour after play had started. Now thats his choice as the buyer. No one could hold that against him if he said no to the player. I remember 20 years ago a couple of friends and myself bought buddy hall for like 2 dimes at a big tournament. He came up to us and said he couldnt buy half of himself on that day. He told us I will play real hard and try and win this thing for you. He asked us to just remember him if he does. Well guess what, he snapped it off. We gave him a thousand dollar jelly roll for being a real man about it. I think your decision to keep her half was right, I just think that you have to live with her response as well. She also lost out on several hundred dollars in tournament money as well. Some people will cut their nose off to spite their face. This is the stuff that has killed the calcuttas. Now there are some class act tournament players that do things the right way. Not saying that she is not because I dont know her to say that. Just giving my humble opinion as always.

Doesn't suprise me at all. I have never been a jeanette lee fan. Its amazing what arrogance and ego can do to some people...

It is amazing what arrogance and ego can do to and for some people. Arrogance and ego wins pool tournaments! It takes somebody pretty arrogant and with a pretty big ego to think they can beat the best.

Some hide it better than others but I have never met a champion that didn't have both arrogance and ego.

Tap Tap...In order to win you have to shut off your emotions and develop a better than you attitude. Some tho never shut it off after the last ball is sunk.

I've bared witness to this on another occasion down in Drexelline Billiards in Upper Darby, Pa. Once again, it was another 'pro'. The guy who bought the 'pro' in the calcutta asked the 'pro' did he want to buy half of himself, the 'pro' turned around and said 'Let me see how I do and I'll get back to you' and walked away. Me, the buyer and another bystander all collectively looked at each other like scooby doo with that look on our faces like,...WTF???????... Anyways, at the end of the tourney, the 'pro' won and then proceeded to collect 'his percentage' from the 'buyer'. The buyer turned around and was like, 'Man if you don't get the h%ll out of my face...etc'. The pro looked in shock and disbelief like the buyer was wrong. Long story short, after a few more words were exchanged, the 'pro' didn't see a coin of the calcutta.

THERE IS A CODE OF ETHICS IN THE WORLD AND POOL WORLD FOR THAT MATTER THAT SHOULD BE PUT TO THE FOREFRONT AT ALL TIMES. WHETHER YOU ARE A 4-YEAR OLD GIRL OR A 4-TIME WORLD CHAMPION, A SUPERSTAR OR PUBLIC ENEMY #1, THE #1 PLAYER IN THE WORLD OR A SUPER NOBODY, THE RULES APPLY TO BOTH. IMO,the problem in today's pool world is that it seems we give a little too much respect to the 'higher ups' AND THAT ALLOWS THEM TO DO THINGS LIKE THIS. We love and appreciate what they do, but that's as far as it goes. As the bible says 'Give every man his just due'. If you don't give money in the beginning, don't expect to receive money in the end. 'Give and you shall receive'- SIMPLE MATHEMATICS.
