Actually that pic Isn't a hell of a lot different

Cut the hair short

Add age lines to the face and it would be surprisingly close

If Cole is in the room you're gonna know it

you cant post up all those pictures of the Joint with out including Master Ted Ito,

Terry was a very good man treated me like a son, gave me great advice. the pictures on the wall at the Joint in the back room are amazing.

Harold Lyons

Last I heard, a few months ago, ... Harold was doing life for reoccuring "cheating the slots", and maybe some other things.
I even saw him on one of those "Vegas" TV shows about past Vegas cheating guys.
One time , He came into the Crystal Palace, in Vegas, just after he got out of the Counties facility. He was very broke. Four days later he showed up with $7,000 and lost it gambling in the pool room.

If he got out recently> I hope he manages to stay out.

Yes, Terry was a good man. I haven't been to the Joint in many years, but was told a couple months ago the pictures are still there. Need to visit.

Sacramento native and i can't say thanks enough for posting those pictures. What a wonderful place (and yes great cheeseburgers) glad the little pool hall down the street can get this much recognition.

You old timer's and your memories! :p

I'm jealous. Someday- I hope I'll have pics to look back on like these with some good memories behind them.

Nice pics BTW.

Play Pool Fool

Cool to see all the pics and memories shared about this amazing place. I've been lucky to have lived in this Sacto. neighborhood all my life and have enjoyed great times (and food) there. Growing up, I'd always grab the corner table by the tournament room entrance just to be close to such a hallowed place. :)

I have other pix of Bill Stroud at the tournament, but I wasn't sure, they look a little alike.

Were all these images taken at a tournament? If so, that was a pretty tough tournament (and who won?).
As you can see from the balls on the table, this was an 8-ball tournament held at the El Rancho hotel in 1979 that Mike Sigel won..I can't believe i was that young!!! Anyway,Stonier was the MAN..He worked all year to make this happen and it was fabulous..Packed house ,good money, great time..Getting to play wasn't easy,Terry made certain that you could draw your ball!! I really miss that guy..

I did notice all the balls on the table. I wondered what game you guys were playing, but I kinda figured it was 8-ball since there were so many balls up-table in each picture that I saw (as opposed to straight pool where there wouldn't ordinarily be so many balls up-table).

So what happened? You grew a beard when you moved to Phoenix as a disguise? ;)

There was 8 ball and 9 ball. I'll post some of the brackets for you. How do like the competition and payouts.........for the late 70s. 1978 8 ball and 1980 9 ball.

These brackets, and others, are on display on the walls at the Joint. If you are a pool fanatic like most of us, you really need to see it, if only one time. The history and action is in the air in this room. Every inch is coverted with the passion that Terry had for the game. I just can't put it into words. There are literally hundreds of photos of players, most taken in the tournaments. Player cards from the matches in the late 70s, posters of major tournaments as the tournament play expanded. And a good dose of the old ad posters that went along with sports. Sort of sexist in spots, but WTF, it was a guys pool world back then. At least mostly.

There is a memorial tournament coming up next month. I there is any way you can be there, do it. Here are some pics I took today in an attempt to share some of the atmosphere of the this very unique piece of times gone by.

This is the entrance now. The seats were added years ago.

As you walk inside, there is a small curved old wood bar on the right. On the left there is a wall with a door, and in front of you are the main bleacher type seating. As you stand there just past the door, you are surrounded by literally hunderds of photos taken there. They are are in a collage, glued to the walls, covering the door and sides of the bleachers.

Looking inside, the big screen is new and the old swamp cooler is gone.

Your surrounded by history of matches....

They are the actual cards used in the matches in the late 70s-early 80s

I'll post more soon, if I get a chance. Make it if you can.

That's a great room, and yeah, you can definitely feel a vibe from looking at all of the pictures, memorabilia and tournament handbills. Extra style points for the oblligatory "No Gambling" sign.;)

I played in one of their weekly tournaments around 6 years ago, and had a helluva good time. I remember playing much better than normal - a strange room does that to me sometimes. Must have been that vibe.

My memory of the tournament room might be flawed, but it seemed that the tables were all parallel with their foot rails to the bleachers - like the two in the foreground of your picture. When I was there, the table lights weren't hangers, but were large custom wooden light boxes, mounted directly to the ceiling, with the lights way up inside. I'd never seen anything like that before. The light was uniformly bright and glare-free — the best I think I have ever played under.
