I have tried for 3+ months to get use to the OB-1 Shaft. I have changed alot of tips and tried different tapers, I guess the OB-1 is just not for me. I have tried hard to adapt but cannot! I play shortstop speed and I am always missing shots that I usually make, usually table-lenghth draw, throw and the like. I have alot of cues and shafts that i constantly experiement with and the combination that I like best (To this day!) is a Joss butt with a Predator 314 Shaft with a Moori medium tip! It seems to work for me the best! I can still get serious action on the cue ball, make the long shots and The sound-Ping that I like (with a metal joint) is great!

The Ob-1 is a great shaft to impress people with with lots of spin (maybe to much), but I do not feel comfortable on even a straight in shot (off the rail with this shaft for the money). My confidence soars with the predator 314 shaft.

I am not affiliated with Predator in anyway (just a player who loves the game). I should mention that even though I like my Predator shaft, I did have some problems with my ferrule cracking (3 Times), but they always replaced it, hassle free and paid for the shipping. I wish the would make the shaft a little longer for us tall guys!

Any comments on simmular situations?
 
a funny thing

I have two Ob-1 shafts both with the original taper
and both with sniper tips .Also both fit a schon butt
well one hits better than the other .Strange but true
So I let a guy at the pool room play with the good one
he doesn't like any of the Ob-1 shafts on anyone elses
cue up there but that one and I know he has tried at
least 3 to 5 others .Maybe I just got a good one I dont
know ?
David you do play good with that predator set up
you were playing with when I 1st met you .I think its
what you got used to and became a part of your game .
Well at least you were open to trying something new :smile2:

I could not make many balls with the OB when I tried it for a while. The feel was great, but something standard like a spot shot with english would miss constantly. I would have to aim to miss 1/2 inch - 1 inch long for them to go in. The same shot with a standard shaft or a Predator required no adjustment for me. It added a soft feel to the hit and spin took a while to get used to. Most of the time we don't want "more" spin, just one that is fully controlled.
 
I might be able to shed a little light on this.

The OB-1 does spin the cue ball a little easier than other cues. We have had many who feel that the cue ball comes off the tip a little faster too. If you pick one up and play using the same speeds and tip positions that you have used with other cues or shafts, you will not like the results.

The key to control is consistency. If you hit the same tip position and the same speed, you should get the same results. Our experiences are that the OB-1 provides just that. However, if you get more spin and speed, it is natural that you should hit a little softer and move your tip position closer to the center. I have had a few people who come to our booth at various shows that have had problems adjusting. I can usually get them tuned in in just a few minutes.

There are 2 real benefits to making this adjustment.
The first is that 99% of the spin shots you have to shoot you can now hit much closer to the center of the cue ball, and let's face it, we all make more balls cueing closer to the center.
The second is that, although you don't need it all the time, you can call on that extra spin when you need it. Now, I am not really talking about more spin on hard shots, but really where you notice the difference is on soft spin shots. You can get more spin with less cue ball speed. This lets you get to breakouts that you couldn't get to before, and it also lets you get around balls that you want to miss.

All of the things I mention here come directly from our customers. We have been hearing these things for a few years now, so we kind of take it for granted that most people have heard these things.

Mr. Bunnel, In regards to your response- Defense comments, It Is not just me that fells this way! I feel your comments were un-helpful. Consistency in where you hit the cue ball every time is obvious if play any kind of speed in this tough game! I know of several local (great players) people and pros alike who do not like this shaft and go back to a standard shaft! Thanks but no Thanks... I do not feel that you should adjust your game to be able to play with a particular product, In this case, an OB-1 shaft. Equipment is suppose to enhance your game, not hinder it!
