Does anyone know how to set up this shot. Ive seen it done and tried to set it up but I am doing it wrong.

If someone wouldnt mind explaining in detail, thanks!:D

Not sure if this is exact, but this is how I've always played the shot.

Forgive me if this doesn't work right; I've never tried to attach a wei diagram before.

For some reason, bug?, the line for the one ball shows up in blue on my screen, but the one actually cross-banks in the bottom side while the two caroms off of the four into the top side. If the shot is set up properly, everthing but the 6 is automatic, and a firm stroke with high running spin should put your cueball in the vicinity of the 6.

Oh, and position A is where you put yer beer. Don't forget to use a coaster if you do the beer bit

Good luck.

A little extra info...

Note that the two balls frozen on the rail, outside the side pocket are close to the pocket. If the ball against the rail doesn't bank right into the center of the opposite side pocket, move the frozen pair farther down the rail, away from the side pocket (this will be a necessary adjustment on smaller tables...I've had to move the pair up to 1/2 diamond on 7' barboxes, to get the banked ball to go in correctly). Note that the two balls frozen inside the side pocket, must be set up 1/2" offset from the actual pocket opening. If you're not pocketing the last ball, try hitting the first ball thinner, with high running english. This is an extremely easy shot, without trying to make the last ball. Practice the 5 ball shot until you can set it up and make it every time, before adding the 6th ball. Without the 6th ball, shoot the CB into the first ball with a half-ball hit, and centerball. For adding the 6th ball, adjust to about a 1/4 ball hit, and add running english. Both shots need to be hit with a firm stroke.

You might need to move the 4 ball a to be a touch further right of the 3 ball as the 4 ball will move through the 3 ball tangent line a little after being deflected off the 5 ball.

Start the shot just setting up the 1 and 2 ball till you get it right. Then tap them to make small dimples. Then get the 4 ball in place. Should be almost square with the center of the pocket. Then add the 3 and 5. All tapped into place, it's a pretty easy shot.

Note that the 1 and 2 ball placement can change significantly on different tables or even due to changes in humidity.

This is only the last of the 3 shots that make up "Just showin' off." There are two two ball clusters that were shot to get to the position shown above. The entire shot can be found on page 213 of Robert Byrne's book "Treasury of Trick Shots in Pool and Billiards." Also included is the dialogue of the commercial.

Dear Aaron:

The shot came up alright on my screen. You did alright : )

I will keep my eyes out for the bug you mentioned.

In this thread I see there are a few friends here who'd like to modify or comment on the layout. As matter of fact, it's very easy: open Arron's original layout (url link), move things around, "SavePage" or "AddPage" + "ExportData" to generate your own version and post it back to here

For example, I have duplicated the original layout to page 2 and then made my modification to page 1 (I might not be correct. Please feel free modify mine and creat yours if you'd like. Great for comparative studies)

.. just a friendly suggetion

Wei...Sure do love your excellent billiards tools! They are a wonderful addition to this and other pool forums. However, I would have to respectfully disagree on your nearly full hit, with the CB, on the first OB. I shoot this shot daily, in my shows, and the CB will not make the 3-rail kick, to pocket the 6th ball, without hitting much thinner on the first ball. I've watched Mosconi, Mizerak, Varner, and a host of other great players shoot this shot many, many times (and learned this shot from Jack White, Willie Jopling, and Jerry Briesath). NONE of them hit the first ball anywhere close to as full as you detail it in your diagram. Even shooting high running english, you still would have to hit AT MOST a half-ball hit (and I recommend a thinner hit, to make the shot easier). The only way I could see making the shot the way you show it, would be to elevate the cue for almost a masse.
BTW, I diagram this shot on my site too! Great shot, and as you said, easy to do!

Respectfully,

Scott Lee

Even though the first two trick shots were simple 2in2's the 2nd one required you to roll the cue ball across table and you had to get perfect on the 6in5 or it would not go. Remember it took miz 8 hrs and 186 attempts to make these 3 shots and in his famous video tape with pretty boy and ewa, he tried to do it again and failed, note there is a cut where he pasted them together. So trying to make all 3 can't be done in public so all the performers just do the final 6in5. Most good performers will make in in 3 snaps, most on the 2nd. Ewa puts a rack in front of the 9 which then makes the 3 rail simple and cheats the shot, but nobody cares what she does, they just want to oggle at her.

Dear Scott:

Thank for very much for pointing out the details. And your points are well taken. This is a great oppotunity to show how to make corrections based on previously posted table layout.

Here I will show a step by step guide to make the new layout based on your comments.

1, open the old layout

2, Click on the tools icon to open tools

3, Click on "Add to New Page" to duplicate the current layout into page 2. Now you should have 3 pages.

4, Click on "Page Down" to go back to page 1.

5, Move the contacting ghostball down and right to show a half ball hit

6, Move the ghostball on the curve to straighten it a little.

7, Click on "Save Page" and go through all 3 pages to double check.

8, Click on "Export Data" to export everything to the computer clipboard.

9, I am back in the posting window now. I am creating a link called: "The MIZ Just showin' off Shot"

10, Select the text and click on "Insert Link" in the forum message window (the icon of the earth with a chain link below), and do a paste (control-V)

Here is the result:
The MIZ Just showin' off Shot

Now the new code contains 3 pages: Page 1 by Scott, Page 2 by Wei, Page 3 by Arron. With everyone's joint effort, the diagram will only get more specific and detailed.

When I said "easy to do" I meant it was pretty easy to make the corrections. CueTable is a open ended system great for collaboration. It will display layouts and also allow further editing to that layout. With keyboad short cut, anyone can do this in seconds.

As to the shot, it can only be easy if one knows how to set it up and excute properly, with the right diagram I hope : ) We need experts like you to teach us. If you or anyone want to learn how the table works, please take a look at the new tutorials I have put together. Pleas also feel free to contact me or post your questions in the forum. I will be glad to help.

ps, it's also cool to know how far the cue ball has travelled (click on the black arrowhead by the 6 ball to find out)

Yes, English is very important too. Let's show people where to hit on the cue ball. Also, it's kind of hard to tell it's a half-ball hit right? We can make a note for that. At the end, let's add a pool cue to the diagram.

Here is the updated version:

The MIZ Just showin' off Shot

any more things to add to this shot? would the pocketing order be 3-2-1-5-4-6?

Big thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Enjoy,

Wei
