Hey there,

I can't believe it's been six years since I first saw Chris Melling's incredible break and run in 8 Ball. In this video. I made a video montage as a tribute to this amazing moment in history of pool.

If you're interested, you can watch the entire video to see me trying to recreate those shots.

Cheers,
Sharivari

So I don't have video but I ran this in league on a Vally barbox. I banked the 1ball 2 rails under and off the stripe hoping to clear the 2. I then 3 railed the 2. Whitey got stuck down in that corner so I 2 rail kicked in the 4ball. Then I cut the 5ball and broke out the 7 and 8 balls. Ran the 6ball down the rail drawing whitey back and shot the 7 in the corner while holding position to cut the 8 in the side.
A opponents team mate said to him when he turned the table over to me "Hey you didn't leave him anything" the opponent replied "He will figure some sh!@ out". After I made all those circus shots the opponents teammate said that was incredible. I replied honestly I feel very lucky. Every shot just worked.

For imagination, difficulty of execution, and general wow factor, I have never seen a runout that belongs in the discussion with this Melling runout. I doubt one player in a hundred would have even found the timing shot that got him started and what followed was almost inconceivable.

In the World 10-ball semis in 2022 vs Szewczyk, Kaci, in Rack #14, had a kick in, a jump in and a long bank during a run out, but it was kid stuff compared to the rack Melling played.

i need a bigger spot !!!!😂
nice out...(y)

Cool video, great editing.

I wonder if Chris Melling tried to execute it that exact way or as a multiway shot. I.e.: lets hope the cue ball hits either ball in just the right way.

I like to believe he planned it exactly this way 🙂

that's about what i figured in terms of ranking the shots. the timing shot is insane. you almost never play them in practice or sparring unless you're playing 3C. but he was literally pushed into a corner with that break combined with the take what you make rule

I talked to Chris right after he did this and congratulated him. He bought the three of US a shot! Very humble.

In the interview after the match he said he tried to play an attacking and defensive shot. I think he played the percentages here, knowing that something really good can happen if he plays his ball into the striped. And if it didn't, there was a good chance to leave no shot for Mika.

I think the rack where Corey did that draw, spin shot he played one more super shot to win the rack, that was a pretty good rack. Not at the level of this, but still up there.

There is also the double kick in rack that Varner did against Sigel in what is to me one of the top 5 tournament 9 ball sets played on film.

Yeah, the Corey rack was a classic, more for great execution than great imagination. The Melling rack coupled great imagination with great execution at a level I had never seen before and haven't seen since.

Varner vs Sigel was a great one, but for me, because of its anti-climax, it falls short of the conversation of best matches ever. The highest level of play I've ever witnessed in a match that was streamed was in the 2014 US Open 9-ball final between SVB and Orcullo. It had two legends in dead stroke together.
