Ok so does anyone know how people get there nicknames? like "The Magician" is kinda simple its because he makes the shots that seem impossible but what about other people? how did they get theres

im wondering because when i get better im gonna need a nickname but i dont wanna just randomly have one.

How did I get mine? lol... I think you can pretty much tell by the picture displayed in my avatar.

lol never said i was gonna give myself one just wondering how the people with them got them so ill know when ppl around the pool hall just call me somthing right now im "Little BIG Guy" and that one is crappy and i dont know why they call me that but they do lol

Truthfully...Efren's real nickname is "Bata" in his homeland. Means "the kid" I believe. After he won a tourney once, I picked up the cueball, handed it to him with a Sharpie...he signed it Efren "Bata" Reyes.;)

yea we call him magician though i knew it was bata...never knew what that ment though thanks for letting me know

magician is a cool name though lol

Some people give themselves names.

Other people have names given to them at there local poolhall and it sticks with them if they go pro.

Other people have names given to them by people who dont shoot pool and the name sticks.

Basically, the name can come from pretty much anywhere and usually has something to do with the person who is given the name or sounds good with there birth name.

Few of my favorite nick names to go with the pro names are:

Francisco "Django" Bustamante
Corey "The Prince of Pool" Deuel
Jennifer "Vendetta" Barretta
Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer
"Kid Delicious" Danny Basavich

Another one I liked is from a local player around here named Howard. People call him Howard the Duck, because of the movie and he was known for missing some ducks in pool.
 
yea thoose are cool names...my birthname is weird though lol so people would probally call me Marwan "salami" Alami or some crap like that or "swami" or something crazy like that

It seems to me pool nicknames are earned by prominently good shooters....I mean, I always thought having a nickname kind of stamped a person or legitimized him as a really good pool player....yes, it would be lame for somebody to give himself a nickname...

I agree, but there have been people who named themselves. Like the person above said with the Bata Reyes name. Im sure there are others too.

Id rather have 'earned' the name then created one on my own.

The people in Efren's early pool hall years named him "Bata"
He didn't call himself that.

ahh...you spelled my name wrong its marwan lol and its not just any cartoon its the Mcdermott mascot lol Even if you ment that to be a mean comment im not gonna start anything with a respected member of teh forum lol
 
If we were allowed to pick our own nicknames in life, there would be no Stinkies etc.
Does anybody think "Big Nose" Roberts would have chosen that name?:D
