Let me begin with I love AZ Billiards for many reasons. This is just an idea id like to put forth, for free at that.

The new for sale format has brought me to throw this out there. Regardless of how AZB was founded and what the motives were the reality is this is this is Mr. Mike Howertons job. AZB has grown to be the BIGGEST IN THE WORLD. This forum is how he clothes, feeds, and takes care of his family. As any of us would do ( minus a few ............. every one of us would do the absolute best we could to make this the very best it could be, and at the same time make it as profitable as possible - and rightly so. Alot of not most take this place for granted, myself included. This is a business, and the point of s business is to make money. Contrary to some beliefs thats ok, not only os it ok but its great. As much as id hate to admit it $$$ makes the world go round - just as it ALWAYS has since more or less since we began to walk upright??? Point being; its here to male some money and thats ok.

While I honestly have no dog in THIS fight I do honestly believe the new Panjo thing is the ground floor level of AZB to be able to profit from the sales of the WFS section as in my opinion they should have been able to do a long time ago. I believe we will see this in less than a year. If anyone has ever been in any kinda business then u should already know how it works - ya gotta spend money to make money and thats fine and HOW IT SHOULD BE. PERIOD.

With that all being said, I do have many many ideas that would make AZB a consistent, ongoing, reliable revenue stream but I will for go those as I only at this time care to offer up one.

With things being what they are in regards to WFS, this concept was brought by the BARTER thread. I fully understand this is a pool forum and website. How bout this? Going a step further, what of AZB had a WFS/T SUBFORUM for anything and or everything?

We have a VERY diverse comm. VERY DIVERSE. If there were to be a sub forum for anything and everything I think it would be a huge success and this is why. Everyone already knows buying online can be a pain in the ass. Why?

I'll tell you why. Its the same reason why the best advertising is the advertising that NO ONE CAN BUT. Referrals, word of mouth - call it what u will but NOTHING will ever beat buying from someone ya know OR buying from someone that a trusted member had vouched for. PERIOD.

The base model of this is EBAY ANF OR CRAIGSLIST BUT who would not like to drop a few thou on something from someone that u could feel at the least a little more comfortable with?

We all are Into MANY MANY things and if we were able to " stay within the family for more that pool stuff " how AWESOME would that be????

Just think about it and I do welcome any and all input, oh boy!!!!
.
In reality this could quite possibly put AZB ON A TOTALLY DIFF LEVEL AND BENEFIT MOST OF US IN WAY MOST MAY NOT BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND AT THIS TIME.

The wanted for sale section sucks............
You wouldn't know it because your I trader is zero.

Good luck but what I see is massive amounts of people leaving this forum.

That's correct and ur opinion is fine. What one with some common sense would prob be able to ascertain is although an " I trader " may show zero has no reflection on someone's business experience or expertise. You are absolutely correct sir, I have not bought not sold anything on there. I have come close several times but just didn't get to an agreeable price for purchase. I doubt I will be selling anything on here. As respectfully as I can right at this moment I must ask u though how exactly does that effect an idea that I was just throwing out there. Does it mean I am not able to comprehend how the FS section worked oriur to change or new version? Does that not entitle me to an opinion as to make it better ( which countless ) others have already put forth their version. NO, NONE OF THE AVOVE. Once again, with all due respect what it does sound like to me IN MY OPINION is folks that use the section for selling at least somewhat frequently kicking and screaming with the thought that the FREE advertising and virtual square footage that they have become accustomed to over the years possibly morphing into something that they may actually have to pay pennies on the dollar to conduct business ( which most businesses would consider the deal of the century with the traffic you are given )
. Once again , just my opinion - hell what do I know. Thank you for your response though.

And just for the record MM , I AGREE with you right now I think it sucks too. What I was saying is it may just be growing pains moving forward to bigger and better things thats all.

It's obvious that you understand how business should be conducted in a structured
environment, however you don't seem to understand the ways cues are sold in the
secondary market.
You can't compare AZB / Panjo to a ground level Ebay or Craigslist, that's not the
culture here.
Our culture here at AZ has always mirrored the poolroom, not Ebay.
I could easily troubleshoot the current problems with the wanted / for sale forums, with
little or no policy changes, no more sub-forums, and Panjo should just be an option for
the nerds and Ebay / Craigslist type sellers.

I agree. There are other forums I am apart of, and people have the ability to sale anything you can think of. It's badass!! Someone lives in another state, no problem, you just set up and express with a member who will be traveling that way, etc... I think you are on to something good. In my opinion AZ is withering as compared to 2006 when I first started lurking. Threads used to move at an astonishing rate. Now, if I get on in the morning, by the evening the main forum page pretty much looks the same. Just rambling but I like the way you think.

Growing pains

No offence, but what is going on in the WFS is driving off good members.

I may be wrong, but I don't think az primary purpose is to function as a place to for people to sell and trade their pool products. Assuming that's true, losing members who leave because they're unhappy with the for sale room probably won't prove to have a huge negative impact on the forum. I also suspect if people have some patience, the new format will be tweaked to be better. This much is clear, the old format was broken and dysfunctional. It needed an overhaul.

Of course if you were one of the crew that networked with a group to constantly bump each other's items to the first page, you were probably happier with the status quo. Had people like this simply followed the spirit of the rules, chances are, the overhaul wouldn't have been necessary. You reap what you sow.

Blues, thank you for your response. You very ADROITLY put forth your position and u respect that more than u know and from here on out I will listen to anything u care to share.

You mentioned " structured" and as we know that = corporate. That is correct. But that is not exclusive, although it does come into play quite a bit.

I am by NO MEANS WHATSOEVER an expert on the secondary cue market. However I have been involved in the secondary cue market for over 20 years. I will not challenge yall that make a living off of pool sales.

What I am an expert in is marketing. Just be honest with urself and u will learn that no matter how much an expert, someone ALWAYS has at least something valuable to add.

My post was honestly not to reinvent the wheel, only to inspire" those chosen few " to solve the problems of the world.

The refs to CL and Ebay was just a ref point. I would never expect AZ to try to compete with them, however when it comes to cues for sale or whatever I can honestly seeing AZ COMPLETELY DOMINATING!

BMore, I appreciate your post and I will be watching this thread to see what other's think of the idea.

To a degree, you are correct. We would like to make a little money from the large number of sales that go through this area. On the other hand, users who post things being gold members would work out fine for us.

As I have said numerous times already, the Panjo thing is something we are trying. It isn't necessarily the answer to all of the issues with the area, but it is something that we are trying.

I asked for feedback from users and I have gotten some. I have also gotten a lot of "Panjo Bad!! Make it go away" type messages that really give me nothing to go on.

Something has to be done about the wanted/for sale area. People are abusing the bumping system. People are making a significant amount of money selling items on the forums and don't even bother to sign up as gold members.

So we are trying something new. It won't be the last thing that we try.

If you like it, tell us what you like. If you don't like it, tell us what exactly you don't like. Saying it bugs you or that you don't like change is not what we are looking for.

We have one guy saying that cue sales shouldn't be the primary focus of AZ Billiards, and one guy saying that AZ Billiards should dominate the cue sales market.

I do think that most people initially came to AZ Billiards to look at cues, and the cue market in general.
Pool cue and pool cue related stuff is where it's at on AZ.
Everything else is just along for the ride, the culture here on AZ goes the way the wanted/for sale and cue gallery go.
AZ does not want to lose a portion of that culture, and just because more people eventually frequent the main forum or even the NPR......the WFS
and cue gallery are still the heart of the forum.

I didn't say cue sales shouldn't be the primary focus. I stated the obvious, that is, cue sales aren't the focus of the forum. Imho, if all tabs except the for sale section were shut down, this site would die rather quickly. Conversely, if there were no longer a for sale section, the site would continue without much of a hiccup. I can only speak for myself but I didn't come to AZ originally to buy or sell cues. I have, however, bought, sold and traded cues. I would continue to participate here if the for sale section no longer existed. However, if the site suddenly became a for sale site only, I would come here rarely. I'm willing to bet there's far more people that fall into my category than the other.

Again, I think the people complaining the most are the ones who killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

I am fine with only gold members being able to post for sale items. The site must make a profit to survive. Imho, what would make the most sense would be to have a tiered membership. Membership could be charged based upon the number of for sale threads the member posts. Common sense would dictate that someone selling 100 cues here per year should pay more than someone who is a casual seller/trader. I think that alone would solve a lot of the issues. I also think there should be a seperate section for the flippers and retailers and a separate section for the casual seller/trader. Just my opinion of course.

I would like to see something to the effect of limiting the number of for sale threads that members can post. For instance if someone is a silver member then they are allowed one thread whereas a gold member might be allowed 8 threads.

I also like the thought of multiple sub forums in the for sale area

I would break them up differently though. Have an area for cues that are 600+. An area for cues under 600. An area for cases. An area for accessories. An area for general/everything.

This would honestly be the setup I would like to see. Wanted threads could fit in those sub forums based on amount that someone is willing to spend.

I meant to point out the fact that you said it all when you said this;

"Had people like this simply followed the spirit of the rules, chances are, the overhaul wouldn't have been necessary. You reap what you sow"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And originally Panjo was looked at as a way to allow us to limit the threads that users could post based on what their usergroup is.

While it looks like we may have another way to limit it, I would also like to allow non silver members to be able to come in and post a single item that they may want to get rid of. I hear from people all the time who were handed down a cue from family and want to know what they could get for it.

I do also like the way Panjo presents items and allows better searching options.

AZB should make money on the wanted/for sale section, but that isn't the problem.
The rules as they are written could be enforced, so rules aren't the problem.
Buying, selling, trading custom cues & cases is still the heart of AZ, so Panjo could be
the cure for the cue addiction phenomenon everybody develops when they log-on to AZ Billiards

Is there any way to tell the number of AZ'ers who have posted for sale items on Panjo and subsequently, the number who have sold a cue on Panjo? I posted a cue for sale on Panjo with no results. That certainly isn't statistically significant in any way. However, i can honestly say that while I browsed the For Sale section several times per day, I haven't browsed Panjo once. My first impression is Panjo was a knee jerk reaction to solve a problem. However, there may be more going on behind the scenes that most of us are unaware of and Panjo may be part of a long term plan.

I can't believe these changes were made soley to fix a problem. The problem could have easily been solved by creating separate sections for flippers/retailers and a separate section for the casual trader/seller AND enforcing the rules (or making the rule irrelevant by modifying the settings to prevent anyone bumping the thread except the OP). Therefore, I have to believe there is different agenda driving this and perhaps, a long term plan. Time will tell. It's not a huge deal for me, I'll buy my stuff through online retailers and sell/buy/trade with previous contacts or other online services.

Hi MIke
I don't like the new system..............
I don't like making knew threads to get my cue on the front page twice a week,
I am lazy and liked it better when I could just bump it ever so many days.

I don't like the fact that I am being restricted from bumping my cues because of other peoples action.

I don't think forward progress is making a task harder to perform.
And I don't like the fact the wanted for sale section has been changed to the point its like watching paint dry.

The people who abuse the rules should be the ones who are punished not the gold members who have been supporting this forum long before we were asked to be gold members if they wanted to sale their cues in here.

The real problem in the WFS is the scamer's that keep coming back in under different names.
They hurt this forum more then any other act

Right now anyone who over bumps or makes two threads for the same cue is getting their asses chewed by the other members who somewhat police the wanted for sale section.

There are some issues that need to be corrected but not being able to bump our cues to the front page is fixing nothing and making were its not worth listing our cues if because no one can find the thread..

Real bad subject, then you guys make up rules for the guys that get banned but come back in here in other user names and when they get caught there not banned for life like the rules say.
It seems these rules don't apply to everyone.
What do you expect us to think when you guys don't back your own rules ?
And we get punished for other members breaking the rules.......

The wanted for sale section has been going down hill for years, and you guys refuse to listen to any reasonable suggestions.

And the changes that you are making is making it worse not better.
