the old dinosaur and carbon fiber

In the picture these look glossy. Revos are very matte. Does that affect the smoothness? I associate glossy with sticky. I have a Revo and it is ridiculously smooth. I saw someone said they need to sand off the finish of their Becue to get the smoothness they were hoping for. Im curious about these custom carbon fiber shaft regarding smoothness.

Err,.....No

Carbon Fibers are made by heating polyacrylonitrile in an oxygen free furnace burning off all of the plastic except for the carbon atoms within.

Err...yes. Where do you think the polyacrylonitrile comes from?

Perhaps you think the carbon is magically conjured up?

The majority of the substrates and solvents used in the production are in fact distillates of fossil fuels like crude oil and natural gas.

So where does polyacrylonitrile comes from? It is synthetic. Synthesized from what? It is a polymer of acrylonitrile. Where does that come from? Oxidation of propylene. Propylene is produced from fossil fuels such as petroleum, natural gas, and, to a much lesser extent, coal. Propylene is a byproduct of oil refining and natural gas processing.

Or did you think synthetic meant produced from nothing?;)

So again...yeah...dead dinosaurs, figuratively speaking of course.

Currently there are efforts in "green chemistry" to find other resources of raw material for the production of such synthetics.

Matt

The first ones did have a glossy finish, that just happens to be the materials i ordered, i am in the process of making some of the duller finish all black. I also have some gloss silver i am working on.

Carbon fiber can have a glossy, semi glossy or dull finish, i sand the ones i make, put a sealer, then a hard wax finish, almost the same as my wood shafts.
