The one billiard item you wish some company would make for you?

I wish someone could design an interchangable tip/ferrule system for shafts. I know those cheesy screw-in tips on the cues they sell in Walmart are a joke, but a really well designed high-quality system should be possible. I'd guess it would be necessary to combine the ferrule with the tip to ensure adequate solidity in the system compared to traditional methods.

If I could buy an entire replacement tip and/or tip/ferrule combo for less than a visit to the local cue mechanic and it felt no different from normal glue-on tips I'd buy it. This kind of system would also let you easily experiment with different tip types, not to mention being able to carry spares in your cue case instead of multiple shafts and to have those tips already broken in and ready to go.

Palmer already did this in the mid 60's, although not as elaborate as you mention. I bought a spare but the problem was it did not quite fit flush on the shaft. After using either one over time the fit became worst. Wood gives over time so the materials screwed together would need to be improved. Then who knows what you'd be looking at on the end of your shaft. LOL

Besides the end mass fanatics would have a field day on this one since Palmer used a 1/8" steel stud for the ferrule to screw on to. They played fine but according to the EM Gods the c/b could end up in Texas.:D Ok if your playing there I suppose. ha ha ha

A friend had a pretty good idea. He wants a airtight case that has an area you can put dessicants in ( little pouches that absorb moisture); the basic idea is to have something to minimize the moisture in the case. I don't know if they make re-usable pouches. Chemistry labs have the little rocks that absorb moisture to keep chemicals dry- you just heat them in an oven and can re-use them. You'd have to find a way to make sure the rocks aren't crunching around making a racket, though.

I believe that gentle (low) heat will drive out the moisture from common dessicant pouches, just collect a few from electronics packaging.

Dave, from Saskatchewan ... "yes, we have no humidity today" :D

Yes, an airtight case with a place to put some chemical to absorb the excess moisture would be nice. Are you thinking of a case with a screw on lid to totally seal off the cue? May be a metal tube, round, with a metal screw on the lid, and a temperature and moisture gauge inside?

This post is a good one- very interesting.

I have always thought some form of digital scorekeeps above the table would be neat- so people could see them. Also, for people who slowplay- a chess clock that would give you an allotment of time for an entire session.
Thank you.
There are electronic scoreboard in Taiwan in most pool halls. You press a button everytime you have won a game and the score is shown in bright numbers on a big score board.
May be a chess timer would be nice to have.

By the way, speaking of tables, I have thought about having a pool hall which only features neon pool. The pool hall will have no window or light, the only lighting comes from those bright purple lights that makes everything white glow.

All the cues and balls will glow in the dark, and the table and the cloth is all black. The only things that glow on the table are the balls.

Players can wear skeleton outfit, and play with a cue which also glows in the dark.

When you walk into this pool hall, you will see skeleton playing pool with a glowing stick with balls floating in mid air.

Just another silly idea of mine.:)

How about a table with timed pockets, so that after like every 10 seconds the pockets individually close up while your not expecting it and the ball shoots back on to the table... Also I would go with the Temp. controlled pool stick case so that you could leave it in any type of weather.

Better and more unique Pool clothing. I have seen some clothing that is cool by some Poolrooms around the country, but no way to know of it without them being on the Internet.

Yes, I have so many designs of pool clothing and accessories in my head and on paper that are cool, but never got going on them.

Pool rooms need heavier coats (ski jackets) with Pool stuff on them. Only 1 I ever saw I have, from here, from a now defunct Montana Billards, black with yellow inside and collar which I originally paid only $60 for. I have had several people offer to buy it right off my back. Areas that have cold winters need these.

Dufferin had coats that you could win for winning their tournaments. They were heavy denim lettermen style jackets with a huge multi-colored embroidered logo on the back, your name and nickname on one side of the front, and the location and date you won it embroidered on the other side. Dan Louie, Horsfall and I all have them and mine is getting frayed around the sleeves now. This was easily my heaviest coat for quite awhile and I wore it everywhere. I do like the idea of other coats, like ski or golf jackets, even dress coats and jackets, that wouldn''t look tacky.

Pool shoes, from classy to casual.

'Nuff said. We sure do need them for dress code tourneys.

Automatic score keepers (Bowling did it, we can too).

The WPBA had some at one time. Huge digital readouts you could see from across the room.

Small electronic anti-theft devices for cues and cases.

Why couldn't they embed a chip (balanced of course) into cues and cases where you would have to damage them if they were pried open. They do it with dogs. You might have to start a service to monitor where everything is and change the registry when it is bought or sold. Or cell phone technology embedded where they know where you are at ALL times.

Big Screen display of brackets at tournaments away from tournament director running tournament from a laptop. Quicker and better method.

Kind of like at the IPT?

Poolrooms that have a way to tell someone you need a waitress, instead of getting up and chasing one down.

Parlor Billiards here in Bellevue installed switches near each table that allows you to page your waitress if you need anything.

Really? I want some super beautiful waitress who would stay next to my table at all time, clap everytime I make a shot, pad my back everytime I miss, and give me a big hug and a big kiss whether I won or lose. It will be like a cheerleading team. I am not asking for too much, am I?:D :D :D

Here is a rotating pool table that can be placed in the corner of a small room so that you can still play any shot with room to spare. Good for a beginner with limited space.

Check the video...requires Real Player:

Nice, Colin....I've thought of the same, but for a regular table and it wouldn't rotate 360, but maybe just 15 degrees or so in order to avoid the basement problems: furnace, wall, pole, etc.

I bet that Hexy sells....it'd be great for a dorm room or small apt.
