Rich is always near by...he is still doing the same things...sell and buying tables ...consignments too...recovering tables all over the place up here, home and business work for the bars and pool halls...

He still plays jam up and is always in the money as usual...says he was ranked 36th in the world at one time way back...

He lives with his daughter as well in Bothell...

I have his number if you want it...

Hiya Rhonda... I know of everyone you speak of. I used to be the houseman at the 211 club mid to late 80's. Dennis Hoffman.. that's the Dennis with blonde hair and a mustach, right? Been so long, I'm sure that was his last name though. Dennis H, Mike Z, Todd M, Bill C, Joe Chun, Vince F, Roger P, J.D., Harry P, Raul, Mike Danner, Mike Dooley, Rich Geiler, Cliff Thayer, Vic, Dirty Rich, Bill Webb, Lynda Moore (hehe)... all those and all whole host of other characters were the norm back in those days.

Yeah, I would love to be the booth with you, but then my knowledge may lose me some games and ruin my action....ha ha...

Also, on Bill Cress...there was another piece of quotes attributed to him as well. I goes something like this...he supposidly said "Pool was my passion, then my job, and now it's my sentence..."

I am sure you will like that one too..

Ha, ha, ha.... Rich Gyler... it has been a LONG time since I saw him... LOL....
I got the church laughs sitting next to the table he was playing Dan Louis in a tournament at Nardos..... LOL... he got sooo pissed at me.... I think it was Bill Cress that said some smart ass remark... as USUAL.... and I could NOT stop laughing.... teeheeheheee.....

OH MY GOD!!!!!! I know allllll those names... LOL

I beat Linda aka/ Lend Me More... in the 211 tournament and got in the money.... it was not much... and I was the underdog....

then played Linda Carter... I think I won that one also... LOL

that was back in the early 90's when Rich was that good.... But yah.... he was about 36th....

Ernie laughed and smiled when I told him you asked about him. He said he is doing well and for one of the few times in MY lifetime, Ernie shared a couple of his special "secret" shots with me. One of them was completely unknown to me and it was fun to see him still able to remember some of the "special" shots.

Alan was good friends with Mr. J and Harry Platis, also Monk I believe. Alan wasn't a serious player at the time but you would know him. He had LONG hair and looked like he just stepped out of the 60's. :smile:

I know he used to hang out at 211 but Mr. J is the one who has the pulse on the Seattle pool scene. Mr J. is quite the catch for the ladies or so I am told. :grin:

I just visited Seattle for a week several years ago and played Harry Platis and lost. :mad: Harry promised me 9-7 but each time I see him he acts like he wants to play but never shows. I had a backer with $40,000 in cash with me one trip and Harry saw the money, liked his lips but declined to play.

Alan is a friend of mine, as is Mr. J.

Monk is a great guy. I heard he is still around and doing well. Zimmerman is up in Oregon with his Queen but I hear he is not playing much pool.

Jay-I attended Saturday of the 09 Swanee. Is Mr. Geiler the well dressed gentleman who is very agile as well?

I am referring to the three rail kick he does. It is a 'well heeled' shot for sure. He's mighty flexible. I wonder if rubber or leather is used? Nice kick.
Cool shot. Nice Chapeau.

The well-heeled guy with the panama hat would be Rich Geiler. Wow, he's still able to get the foot up there? He's was doing that shot 20 some years ago when I met him, I"m sure a few more decades before that.

Ernie Sellers has been around pool all of my adult life and even before that. He's got a lot of miles on him but he is still sharp and remembers some of the top players from yesteryear.

I thought maybe some of you would like to hear their names and what Ernie's thoughts were.

Ernie said Johnny Fitzpatrick played just under Luther Lassiter. Johnny Irish was a top player from the East Coast.

Marcel Camp was from Miami I think and Ernie said he witnessed Marcel winning 10 games in a row and his partner in crime said they might lose a game every now and then and Marcel replied "We don't ever have to lose a game, EVER".

Another player from yesteryear was Scarface, who visited New Orleans in 1948. He apparently had a birthmark on his face, maybe close to his eyes.
He as a good gambler.

Connecticut Johnny was another top player from those early days of pool.

Oh yeah, Johnny Fitzpatrick reportedly gave Squirrel Carpenter the 7,8 playing 9 ball when Marshal Carpenter was quite young and beat him.

Ernie had witnessed John Schmidt practicing a year or so ago and I asked Ernie how the players of yesteryear compared with the players of today and he said that today's players are more advanced than the players of yesteryear. Just a few thoughts to consider who lived and breathed pool for his entire life. Ernie was one of the few people that I knew who made a living playing pool his entire life. Ernie likes the horses and still claims he is way ahead of the horses. He doesn't play pool any longer but he is in his 80's now, seems to be in pretty good shape and gets around just fine.

I played with Ernie on several occasions many years ago. Unfortunately, he has more of mine than I have of his...:mad:

He beat me every time that we played on a 4' X 8' or 4' 1/2 X 9'; however, i did get in his pocket a couple of times playing 9 ball on bar boxes on the Westbank and across the lake in Slidell. (Bar boxes were my best game back in the late 70s and early 80s). :cool:

I'm glad that he is still kicking....:smile:
